    Samsung D500 + bluetooth...

    hey guys,

Ive just ordered a D500 on contract with o2 to replace my SE T610 which is falling apart.... It should be arriving later this week, but I wont get home (from uni) to play with it til the weekend. With my T610 ive got a data cable to send stuff between phone/pc, but was thinking about getting a Bluetooth dongle to use with the samsung phone.

    Few questions:
There are class 1 (100m) and class 2 (10m), if I get a class 1 one will it work 100m away or am i limited by the phone - eg shall I just save a few quid and get a class 1 jobby?

Where's the cheapest place to get one? there seem to be hundreds on ebay - what kind of price should I be looking at for a class 1 / 2 one?

and lastly.. Anyone with a d500 got any random advice / websites / etc that i should look at in relation to my new phone?

    cheers

You are limited by the worst device, so you will be limited by the phone so just save money and get 10m range one...unless phone goes 100m...

Class 2 costs more than class 1.

www.esato.com (although mainly SE (cause they rock), probably some useful advice)

Well, I can safely say that getting a D500 to work reliably with a 3rd party BT adapter could be...a non-trivial exercise. Had fun a couple of days ago with getting a user's personal mobile to synch with Outlook via the built-in BT adapter in a Dell Latitude D600. These adapters work just fine with other phones (even Nokia 6310s as long as the phone's firmware is up to date, and they are PERNICKETY sods with 3rd party adapters). The D500 would synch once, then fail on subsequent attempts; reboot, synch once, then...you've guessed it. YMMV, but I would check whether your proposed dongle is confirmed as working with the D500.

the T610 has bluetooth too, so you might be able to transfer your phone book, pics and midis to the D500. There's an option to transfer all contacts via bluetooth in the T610

Escape Fails - Love, Blood, Family, You - album available from iTunes and other digital stores!!

good point, that seems to be the sensible option... though i still dont have my phone as o2 tell me they are still out of stock of them arg!

YMMV, but I would check whether your proposed dongle is confirmed as working with the D500.

Best of luck; I have to say, I love the idea of Bluetooth but after the amount of grief it's given me (thank you Nokia, thank you Actiontec, thank you Samsung...), my enthusiasm's palled a little...

I've got the incredibly badly executed belkin 10m bluetooth dongle and it works fine with my D500 (after much trouble getting BT working). The software for the D500 is pretty good but to sync you need to enable a virtual serial link before you open the program. After that it automatically downloads all informaton (contacts, calender info, SMSs etc).

I'm wanting one of these phones. Do you think it would be possible to post a little review and some photos taken with the camera please, when it arrives?

I have a D500, been using BT for the headset and sending files around our office (great fun, and you get pretty good distance id say they are likely to be class 1). for all of these things the BT has been great, no probs at all.

I have no dongle but may get one, i have been using the IR for communicating with my laptop and it works fine if a bit slow.

I've got one of these. I orginally had a Sony Ericsson k700i but it felt a bit plasticy and the camera was rubbish. Main observations so far:

    plus points:
    1. solidly built, feels 'good' in the hand.
    2. Amazing camera, probably the best on the market at the mo
    3. 80 meg memory!!
    4. Brilliantly fast bluetooth
    5. Great battery life

    Gripes:
    1. Navigation system is a bit awkward (nowhere near as intuitive as the sony ericsson) but you'll get used to it soon enough
    2. Comes loaded with a bunch of gimmiky preset tunes, tones and MMS mesgs which are flippin' awful, get rid of them.
    3. Although u can use an MP3 as a ringtone, u can't use one for SMS/MMS or for the alarm (why? would be so easy to implement and make it much better!)
    4. No usb cable or pc software supplied

Overall very happy. Phone is too young to have any reliable feedback on whether the slide mechanism is easily broken or loses its 'spring' after a while - I suspect it might if you don't treat it with respect.

I love my phone. I've had it running for 9 days now without a charge! The memory's spacious for internal but I'd prefer 512 add on so I can add lots of media.

I reckon that could be arranged although while you (and me) are waiting for my phone to arrive there's a review with pictures here (at the bottom of the page)

ok.. phone arrived lunchtime, charged it up and have been playing around.. a couple of problems/niggles so far:

    1) I cant transfer my contacts from my T610 to my new d500... if i choose 'send all' my t610 sends for ages (ie seems like its sending the whole address book) but the d500 only recieves the first contact..

    2) Contacts are displayed surname first (eg Bloggs Joe instead of Joe Bloggs).. on my T610 there is an option to choose whether to have them ordered in firstname/surname I cant find the option to do this on the d500 - is there one?

    3) Messages (SMS) seem to be stored on the sim card, and then i have to manually transfer them so they're stored on the phone.. how do I set the phone to automatically save the messages to the phone?

if anyone could help id be mighty appreciative

The name thing really gets me as well and I'm not even sure if they're planning a fix for it

My D500 does indeed save texts on the SIM first but as that's only 20 it doesn't matter. As soon as the sim is full, everything's saved on the phone memory (250+150+10 i believe).
