    Windows Mobile 2003 SE

How do you upgrade to this from the 2003 standard version? Can you buy it from anywhere?

The only way would be a ROM update from the manufacturer, if they provide one, I'd have thought.

I think certain apps allow you to rotate the screen. For example, I use Picodrive on WM 2003 running on an SPV e200, and there's a control to flip the screen output so you can play Sonic in widescreen.

For movie players I know that PocketMVP and Pocket TV allow you to use widescreen mode.

What device do you have? There's a 2005 magneto ROM floating around.

BetaPlayer will play videos in portrait or landscape mode...and it's free!

    Look here: http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=1080

    and here: http://betaplayer.corecodec.org/download.html

I ripped a load of my DVD's using PocketDVD Studio (http://www.pqdvd.com/) and put a couple of films onto the 512MB SD card every time I was travelling. Excellent quality when played back in BetaPlayer. PocketDVD Studio is not free but is the simplest application for ripping your own DVD's using a couple of mouse clicks. Most other solutions require you to rip to your hard disc first and then transcode to DivX using another application.

I was ripping at 200-230MB (although you can set the quality in Pocket-DVD Studio. Hence, I could get 2 full DVD's onto my 512MB SD card. I kept a load of ripped DVDs on my hard disk and just copied a couple over every week. Very watchable at the 200-230MB quality level. The only thing is that the battery on my Pocket PC doesn't last too long (you certainly would not be able to watch a full movie on a single battery charge!), hence I bought a Belkin charge/sync kit that could supply power via a car socket/mains/USB port

Ahh thats cool. So I could comfortably fit GPS maps and a movie or two on the 512MB card. The charge kit will come in handy too until I get a powered mount for the car.

not sure how big the tom tom files are, if you can get a 1Gb card, will save hassle in the long term. The TT maps and voices do take up a large amount of room. I currently have a range of cards, the 1Gb stuff cost a fortune when I got my setup. If you want an amplified mount search ebay, I saven uiet a bit of dosh by getting my arkon mount on there, and it was still new from a shop.

Yeh I probably will get a 1gig card eventually, might wait until the 2gig ones come down in price...

I looked on ebay and the Arkon mount for iPAQ's is £29.99 'buy it now', good price?

The powered PDA mount with speaker and RJ12 GPS port normally retails for around £45. I have the older model without the GPS port, but am using bluetooth so doesnt matter.
