can anyone help with a couple of questions regarding the Motorola Razr V3?

hey Guys - could anyone help with two questions regarding the Motorola Razr V3?

    1. does anyone know how to display only either the 'phones Phonebook memory or the SIM Phonebook memory ?

    2. apart from a 'Master Clear' (of the whole phone), does anyone know how to delete all of the 'phones Phonebook memory (more or less in one go, as opposed to manually selecting and deleting each entry (400 plus in my case!) ?

    thanks in anticpation...

    cheers,

    PD

    OK, done a little research...

Basically you can't. It's HUGE overlook by Motorola. As is stupid menu system. There is just no logic to it, but new firmware and flex's are released (and modified) every so often, which can be flashed to the phone. Might have the option added in the future maybe. But don't hold your breath.

There is a work around though - make all the contacts in the SIM one type of catagory and the contacts in the phone another. Then get the phone to display just the one type. Probably easier and quicker to link it up to your PC and use software that came with the phone.

The only way to do this is using the software that came with the phone. But I still think it's a pain to have to rely on linking it up to your PC. Hopfully a firmware update with include a proper 'delete all' function. But again, don't hold your breath for a community modded version that can do this. Most modded firmware releases are just that - modded. Actual new feature's are very rarely added, just tweaked.

The V3 is a great phone, just wish Motorola could have thought a bit more about the menu system and firmware functionality. Nokia seem to have this side of thing licked now. Shame thier new phone designs are so awful these days. IMO the last nice looking phone was the 6230, but i had that for a year and fancied a change. On the whole I am very pleased with the V3 even with it's little quirks.

If you like, I will post some links here to some good sites and third party app's which let you control the phone more (upload games, remove operator branding etc) if you like. Let me know and I will find them again for you.

I've also had this problem. There is an option to copy all your phone contacts to the sim, very useful for backups etc, but then it displays them both! Such a shame as the rest of the phone is very robust and intuitive

do either of you have, or know where, the '3D phonebook' - referred to in Motorola's initial product launch activities - may be legally acquired?

i'm wondering whether its use, addresses this fundamental shortcoming... a shortcoming that i don't recall reading about in any third-party editorial evaluation...

of course i may be wrong here, but i've long thought that most third-party mobile phone editorial published - especially in print magazines - reads as much like the bland, garden variety 'advertorials' of PC components and systems that litter shop shelves...

I had it on my phone when I bought it. It's in the Games/app area. If you don't have it you may have a different 'flex' to me. What network are you on? I only got my V3 last week and seem to have a slightly more up to date version than most people (I have the metal battery cover when most people are complaining of a plastic one).

If you have not got it, when i get home I will rip it off my phone and email you the files (plus the small app to install it with). I finish work and go home on Tuesday if thats any use, but in the mean time I will run through it and see what it can do. To be honest it looked like a very tacky bit of nonsence when I looked last, so I doubt it will be that great and fill the short comings we are experiencing.

Ok, just had a look at the 3D phone book. What an incredible piece of engineering it is too. It has room for an amazing... wait for it... drum roll please... 9 contact entries! Wow, if only I knew that many people.

Oh, and it's utter carp anyhow.

Sorry Paul (it is Paul, right?), I'm not going to be able to get it to you by tuesday. I don't get home until at least Tuesday lunch time (work shifts). If you still have the phone then, PM me Tuesday and I will send it. But trust me, it's an complete and utter waste of time for you installing it, it's simply the most pointless app I have seen. It's no supprise that Orange's flex version does not include it. But like I said, it really is no problem and i will send them over to you so you can see for youtself mate.

Personally i quite like the V3, but i would be happier with the newer full metal one which I have. It has it's quirks like any phone will. Nokia have pretty much nailed the menu layout and are very intuitive to use, but thier new designs are very poor both in looks and build quality in my opinion. It's a personal thing, but I don't want a smart phone or a 3G phone. I just want a well build phone for calls, text and the occational weather and email. I really don't care about buying overpriced MP3's and football video clips. I don't even want a crap camera really, which lets face it they all are. And I certainly don't want video calling, hell no, what a disaster that is waiting to happen! It's all for the teenagers really. I'm 28 and the V3 does me just fine and there is nothing else like it on the market in terms of build quality and looks. Until a phone with the V3's build quality and size comes out with all the other jazz for no extra cost, I'm well happy with my V3.

I will stop going on now

    Cheers.

PD, PM me with an email addy which I can send you the java files which I have now ripped off my phone.

You will also need a small program to load it on with. I must warn you it's a bit of a fiddle with moto's, but you should work it out

I guess you have already seen my rather negative thread regarding this phone. A bit of a rant really after a very fustrating day using it. I think many people have been pleased with it, I just found that after 2 weeks I could not bear the thought of using it for another 11 and a half months. My advise would be to hold off for a few weeks if you can. There are some very spanky new models around the corner. Seriously, MP3 and camera phone's are really going to come of age this summer/later this year.

I would be interested to hear PD's thoughts though, I know phones mean different things to different people.
