Bye Bye V3. Why I HATE my Razr now...

    At first i loved my V3, but I'm sending it back because after using it for two weeks I feel like throwing out the window. It's probably the nicest looking phone out at the moment, but it's just bloody awful to use for the following reasons;

    * The menu's are extremly unresponsive - press a key and it can take over 3 seconds sometimes for it to perfom the action requested.

    * The menu layout is so insanely frustrating and diffuicult to navigate. There is just no logic at all in the way it has been organised. 2 weeks on and I am still left scratching my head at the most simple of tasks.

    * For no good reason, the email function has completely vanished off my phone. No one can tell me why it's just not there in the messages menu any more. I have searched the bizzare menu system but can't find and reference to it anymore. Very very wierd.

    * The signal is pretty poor. No where near as good as my old Nokia's.

    * The battery life is about half or less than my old 6230 and other nokia's i used to have.

    * The Text input is a complete joke. Seriously, it's faster to use non-predictive text. The predictive text imput is soooo frustrating to use that i hate texting now.

    * The final nail in the coffin was seeing someone sit down on a (very) soft chair with one in thier back pocket - the V3 was completely destroyed. I can't trust myself after a very jars of the special stuff.

I would advise anyone who is looking to get this phone to find someone who has one and give it a good test drive.

Looks like the absolutly STUNNING new Sony's will be out soon. Not sure which to get, the K750i or the W800i.

I think Sony's aproach with the W800i is clever, if not obvious. I was wondering when a Walkman/mobile hybrid would turn up a couple of months ago. I wonder how long it will take before we see one with harddrive in? I have read that the W800i and K750i are virtually the same phone's except the W800i has the Walkman branding. Might have to go for the K750i, it's been so long since there has been a phone on the market that i actually want. The last phone I really wanted was the 6230 over a year ago. Aparently the photo quality for both is awesome for a phone with a proper(ish) lens and focus. I rekon this time next year we will be up to 4 mega pixel in small phones. They could do it now really, but i guess they like to bring them out in stages to make more money over the years, and encuraging people to get a new phone at least every 12 months.

both those phones look wicked, i think id go for the w800i.

dunno why you have so many issues with the v3 tho? ive had mine 6 months and its fine, the menus are smilar to most phones i thought. fairly sensible, not sony or nokia good but better than the rest imo. it is a touch slow at times but not 3 seconds for me, and the battery life is actually supposed to be one of the longest out there - mine lasts for days and days without a charge, much longer than my old t610. i agree it aint a brilliant phone, but for a phone that looks pretty and is perfectly good at making phone calls it's fine. for everything else i use my pda

Maybe I was being a bit harsh, maybe I am being too fussy, but they are issues that really bug me and I needed a rant

As for the 3 second delay, it's when you are dealing with photos as having a photo on the screen can bring this phone to it's knees at times. But there is a delay all the time which frustrates me - usually 1-2 seconds. Mainly when I am texting or searching the phone book quickly - it just can't keep up with me.

In actual fact, it depends what network you are on. As each network brands with it's own graphics and skins, it can be slow if they use heavy graphics etc. I'm informed the vodaphone 'flex' is the fastest.

While I'm moaning about the V3, the phonebook is another annoying thing - you can't have SIM or Phone contacts displayed. It has to be both - so you get contacts appearing twice. Very silly. tut tut Motorola, poor effort indeed.

Oh well, I will stop moaning now

BTW, I pretty much know this phone inside out now. If anyone has one and needs to know anything, such as how to install games etc and remove some operating branding, let me know.

I was thinking of buying this phone. No one I know owns it but I have read a lot of rant about the phone book.

i really wish they would stop putting camera's into phones (especially focusing on increasing mp's etc instead of making the phones slimmer), if I want to take a photo I'll use my good quality digi cam not my phone.

I had a 7250i, but quickly swapped back to my nice slim 6100 after realising the photo stuff is just a gimic.

How are you sending it back?

Is it on a new contract, is it an upgrade or is it just a handset? Who with? What's there trial info?

It was an upgrade. But all networks give you a 2 week trial period on a new contract or upgrade (at least i know O2 and Orange do). I have sold my old 6230 for £150 on eBay (not bad for a 12 month old phone that was free) so i will need to get a cheap stand in while I wait for the new Sony's.

If you don't like gimmicks, then aviod the V3. It's a complete gimmick if you ask me. I am much the same, I did not want a camera, just a good phone for call/text. Unfortuatly the V3 just does not cut the mustard with either. Sorry, but i have been using mobiles before most people. I had the first nokia that was released in the UK, and old massive analogue thing. This is the most dispointed I have been so far.

i tend to agree with you dangerous_dom, it is a gimmick...but then i like gimmicks

if you want an attractive phone (not to everyones tastes im sure) that has good battery life to just make phonecalls on its great. if you want a sensible phone that's quick and easy to use with loadsa features think again.

ps. phonebook's never been a problem for me, sent the contacts over via bluetooth and had no probs.
