| D500 and BEER Turns out that my D500 didn't enjoy its swim in my pint of budweiser... It got dunked on saturday night, when i turned it on on sunday afternoon it started working but the buttons were kinda not working so good... by the evening all the buttons were working A-OK... on monday the only button which works is the ON/OFF button. and as of today it's still the only button that works. Any ideas on whether it can be fixed? is there some IC which controls the keypad which is knackered - if so why does the on/off button work? should i put the phone in some water to clean out the sticky beer? ![]() Mark |

| Why not? So long as the battery is out you may as well give it a go, just make sure its dry first (give it a good couple of days) you could even try an ipa bath if youre feeling really extravegent (sp?) | n.b. do anything at your own risk! ![]() heh. you're lucky it's still working really! Now, switch it off and take the battery out! You could try cleaning it in water - preferrably distilled water as it's not conductive? What I'd do is to take the battery out and set it aside to reduce your chances of shorting out any circuitry (wipe as necessary with a dry cloth or water where necessary). Then take the phone apart and clean the button terminals - if you're lucky all they'll need is a good cleaning of the button contacts (beware the myriad of small bits and make a note of any screws or little bits you have to remove) but a good washing with distilled water, followed by a long drying out period might help prolong it's life. If the circuit boards look okay you might just risk it and stop after cleaning the button and battery contacts... As a minimal clean you should at least take the front cover off and clean all the button contacts/terminals with distilled water and maybe some alcohol (of the cleaning variety ) and probably also the battery contactsgood luck! |

| None of you are hardcore enough. If its knackered anyway wheres the harm. Dunking it will have no effect so long as the battery is out and you let it dry prperly afterward. | Distilled water is still conductive, though it will be much less conductive than regular tap water (it still has impurities) Nox <-- Click 'My System' __________________ Last edited by Nox; 20-10-2005 at 04:33 PM.. |

| My D500 lost the power of its "up" button when I woke up one Glastonbury morning in June and found it floating at the bottom of my tent, if anyone remembers the reported floods of the time.... I opened it up but I cant gain access to the gubbins under the keypad Warranty's up now too. Any tips ;()? |

| A few years ago a friend of mine dropped his in a pint of 80'. Upon returning home it was mostly dry but a little sticky. He decided it would be a good idea to drench the thing in WD40. So we removed the battery and SIM (he was unable to remove the SIM himself because of the 80') and he set about using up almost a whole can of the stuff on his phone. Surprising ly in the morning (well actually it was almost early evening by the time he surfaced) the thing *actually* worked! After this we concluded that Pauls answer to pretty much everything is to use industrial lubricants. After all it works for his bike so why not everything else... |
