| CDMA and GSM are both technologies which carry 2nd Generation mobile signals. They are competing technologies and you will find that different countries have different technologies. UK for example is GSM based. There are advantages and disadvantages on a network level but nothing that will affect the end user. You just have to use what your country uses pretty much. | Teh distinct difference is that CDMA handset dont have SIM. They have their ID (phone number) embedded in them, so each phone is kinda unique, only the service provider can change it. Afaik CDMA is faster than GSM iirc. Country use CDMA are Japan, Korea... | Junior Senior Member | If you want to have a read about the various pros and cons, then Wikipedia is a good place to look. In short, CDMA (code division multiple access) is an air interface used by network operators in the America and parts of Asia, using a mobile phone standard called cdmaOne. GSM is a mobile phone standard used by network operators around the world (with the exception of Korea and Japan), using a TDMA (time division multiple access) air interface. From a technical stand-point, CDMA is a newer and more advanced technology. It generally provides a more reliable network and the upgrade to 3G is smoother and less expensive for the operator. However, since GSM is less technically complex, the phones for it tend to be smaller, cheaper, provide better battery life and are less likely to have an external aerial. |
