HTC Universal /iMate JasJar /XDA Exec /MDA Pro

Call it what you will, I'm sure you all know the phone pretty well- It's the Windows Mobile 5 device with the keyboard, wifi, 3g and a rotating screen.

Well, the postman came yesterday, bringing with it one of these wee bundles of microchips. Frankly, the whole thing just rocks. The screen is amazing, the keyboard works well and interface is even pretty good. I haven't had a chance to try out the 3g web yet, I have yet to find a signal.

I'll take some photos of it and so forth when I get my camera at the weekend.

Isn't it a bit too big to use a phone though? I like the look of the update to the HTC Magician, is it the HTC Wizard? Still no 3G but much more of a useful size...

The wizard is the magicians form factor but with a keyboard. Orange business is terrible for being kept in the loop about what phones they can sell, they are literly told a hour or two before its availible!

That's it then. T-Mobile are offering the Wizard, Orange are not offering it in the UK.

    Nope, Edge isn't gonna come

C600 looking nice though - That'll be my personal phone, M5000 the work phone.

Too big to use as phone? Possibly, but as a work phone it's a PDA first, phone second.

Hence a C600 for my personal phone - Thats a phone first, email and the like second.

Will be holding off getting ours - All the funky exchange features aren't supported until the MS release the "Messaging & Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5" to OEM's. As Orange still won't confirm when they're getting it, let alone whether it'll be a free upgrade (flash) when it is, we're holding back.

Anyone finding it hard to resist the O2 XDA Exec? Try resisting it at £280!

Go into an O2 store and ask for it on Data 5 - £8 a month for 12 months and the phone costs £230 on this plan. O2 are also doing trade in, so any working phone/charger combination nets you £50 cash back from O2 a month after you sign up, making the grand total for the year of £280.

Not bad eh? If only it wasn't so big!

Not bothered with the Universal myself, got a nice MDA Vario (aka Wizard) sat here. Taking some getting used to compared with my P900. Certain things blow me away, others leave me reaching for my trusty SE. With all these buttons dotted around the phone, why the heck is it so difficult/impossible to navigate without using the touchscreen?

Just went into an o2 store today - you can't get the xda exec as cheap as Zathras says - it is impossible to buy on a 'data only' tariff, you need a voice tariff too (so said the sales woman).

Got all excited and was skipping all the way to the o2 shop as well hahhaa

It is not impossible at all. The sales person is talking rubbish - it's just they don't do many data-only tariffs. I've had this confirmed at six different stores across London, and personally know of two people who have taken up this deal.

Well I was at one of the Oxford Street branches, and I asked about the exec, and they checked the data only tariffs, and stated that I had to buy it on voice as well as data, she didn't give me the choice of data only
