    MDA Vario / Qtek 9100 / i-mate K-Jam / O2 XDA mini Pro / Orange SPV M3000 opinions

    ..the list goes on

I've just upgraded my P900 - was hoping to wait till the P990 but was told from woman on the phone that T-Mobile would not be getting these

So, I got my T-Mobile MDA Vario, which arrives tuesday (at the expense of £9.00 pnp - it better be lead lined or something) and was wondering if any of you guys had one, and had any thoughts, recommendations and what not on it?

Also, Windows Mobile 5.0 users are welcome to comment and give me some advice on what to look out for - my first experience!

    Ta very much,

    Tobe

flash update the rom with a Qtek one (thats what I use) its a lot cleaner than the tmobile software
once that is done and obvioulsy unlocked too... the fun begins

games, sat nav, apps, you name it

I've had mine for a while now (although its a qtek 9100 as opposed to the mda vario) and I love it
They were supposedly replacing the 9100 with an updated model but nothign has been said more about it
All I could see was it had a 2mp cam and boasted a faster CPU

Plenty has been said about it. It's called the HTC Hermes, do a google. (The networks and vendors like qtec will rebrand it, i.e T-Mobile are calling it the MDA Vario 2 IIRC).

As for the Vario orginally posted, yes flashing is a good idea. And basically every function of WM5 needs to be replaced by some third party software which will do it much better.

The Vario does not has the fastest processor or a great deal of memory. When you close an app it does not actually close, rather minimises it. The first thing i would always do is get a task manager that will proper closes apps when you finish using them.

Go to xda-developers (http://forum.xda-developers.com) and into the forums.
there should be about 10 phones listed with pictures... you want the wizard
search for unlocking and within the first few pages, there is a very good thread about unlocking
step by step instructions and the tool to do it
i've done it on a daily basis but do not have th elink here at work

if you cant find it by 6pm, drop me a pm and i'll dig out the steps + software for you.

It's a great piece of kit - I've had mine about 5 months and not unlocked it or anything. Can't sync it with my ActiveSync though, it just sits there and never actually syncs, which means I can't get my contacts etc. off of it - and so I haven't yet hard reset it to try flashing it.

Does absolutely everything though. Except it's a bit slow on answering calls. Still, who buys this for a phone anyway?!!

If it shows as connected, but never synchs, have a look at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...c/default.mspx . In their infinite wisdom, MS decided to implement Activesync 4 and later over IP, even if (don't laugh) it's a device connected directly via USB to the PC. Consequently, desktop firewalls REALLY naff it up. Had the same issue, and had to **** about modifying GPOs for a domain as a consequence.

Ah - I have done something with the Firewall which I thought permitted it through. It's exactly as that webpage says, basically it just sits there and gives you no feedback on what the problem might be, so you have no idea where to try to fix the problem - or even that there is one.

Cheers nichomach, that might just sort it

As long as you have AS 4.1 you should be fine
I found out yesterday that on my work laptop I could not sync despite no firewall and 4.1 installed

simply go to network connections and see if there is a connection for your windows PC
If so, right click>properties> tick the TCP/IP checkbox
(by default, i think 3 out of the possible 4 get checked once you tick tcp/ip)

press OK and instantly you will get AS kicking up a fuss about registration

Consider putting a cooked ROM on it. Go to the forums at xda-developers - Xda-developers and look for the TyTn 2 forum. Cooked ROMs are often more stable and have more features than original carrier ROMs - though there's a learning curve. Don't do anything without reading up on it first.

yeah... if you mess up, you can permanently damage your phone, so make sure you're confident of what you're doing...
