Not particularly as last year, (after having a SE T610 for about a year and still using it) I got in contact with Vodafone and said that I needed it for use in HK and other countries in the future with their own network etc and then explaining Virgin's free unlocking service to them (and reminding them of my 5+ years old contract and commitment to their company!!!.)

They still asked for a payment but still went ahead to try and find a unlock code for it. Two seconds later they get back to me and tell me that no code was found and said that my best bet was to go to a market store. However they warned that this would invalidate the warranty on the phone and so I decided not to unlock it.

So what I want to know is:
If the phone came from Vodafone, and is physically stamped Vodafone on the bottom, shouldn't they have an unlock code for the phone?

    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

The newer phones such as the K800i and various new nokia phones are not unlockable currently as they are locked by the Service Provider now as opposed to the generic locking system provided by the phone manufacturer.

If the phone is locked down to Orange there is a solution, firstly you will need an Orange Pay As You Go sim registered to your name. Pop the sim in the locked k800i, phone up orange customer service register the phone with the sim and ask them to unlock the phone. They will charge you £20.

I'm not sure if this will work with any other network as I have only tried it with my own Orange branded K800i.

    Hope that helps.

Same said for Three, but a little more effort required, and sims arent as cheap.

O2 & Orange Sim Cards I know for a fact you can get for free off the web - so if you are with one of those networks, that may be an answer

    Talking Unlocking K800i

Hello I have bought a K800i on Orange. All you have to do is buy a orange sim for about £2 then register the sim card with orange. Put £20 of credit on the sim card and they will unlock the phone within 7 days.

I've just got my ThreePay (PAYG) sim today, and requested that Three unlock my handset.

£15 it's cost and takes upto 7 days. Quite why i'm not sure. But hey ho.

It's not possible. The phones are locked by the service provider (i.e. Orange, 3, etc) who have branded the phone - they're the people with the specific codes/algorithm for unlocking that particular phone, no other service provider would be able to unlock the phone.

wont work, because they wont recognise the IMEI (As MdSalih said).

I'm still half expecting Three to call me to say its not able to be done. In which case all hell will break out and ill be asking them for my money back + some for inconvenience.
