Maybe I am hamfisted (although I don't think so). You keep pressing the wrong buttons. Especially when trying to cancel the last letter typed.

I've found it easy enough to text with one hand, but you're correct about mistaken button presses, ending up back at the menu when you've tried just to delete a letter does get a bit annoying after a while

I've seen a lot of griping about the sat nav, but I'm quite happy with it. It's more than fine for occasional use. We got lost heading for darkest MK last week and had it not been for the phone I think the missus would have had us heading for Dorset. Downloading the maps from the Nokia site thru the PC beforehand helped (can't believe how few folks on other forums do this), saving time and money, rather than the N95 going online repeatedly for new maps. Found us a petrol station sharpish too while extremely lost.

On a side note, never again will I undertake a 6 hour car journey with a PMT-ish girlfriend driving

Ive found the GPS to be decent enough too.

I am definitely going to download maps off the website and preload it once I get a memory card. Even if data access should cost as I have the WebNWalk Plus deal on my phone. And it gets 1.1mbps download speeds.

Can anyone else not get their GPS working? It just seems to never connect! I left it on (inside) overnight to see if it would connect, but wouldn't. I've tried for about 20 minutes outside, but it hasn't connected. I got it to connect once outside, pretty much straight away.. I was near the seaside at the time so maybe thats why.. but its stupid it doesn't seem to work anywhere else..

Worked for me in my house (near a window), on the road, both with building on either side as well as the motorway and when I was standing around outside.

It does take a little while at first, but then its fine.

The GPS on the N95 (Nokia 'Maps') is so bad, it's almost legendary now.

The route calculation is soooo bad at times, it would say it's broken. It will get you there, but in a very bizarre way often. I gave up after a day is crazy stuff, like sending me in the wrong direction up a road then telling me to turn around and go back down it!

Don't forget that Nokia Maps have not even reached version 1.0 yet, it's a beta being sold as a main feature.

You're telling me... Heading down the M6 in torrential rain, in the dark. Everyone else was slowing to a crawl. My missus however, in her infinite wisdom, was sitting just under the ton "trying to make up for lost time" My timid suggestion to turn the wipers up a notch and slow a teeny bit was met with a snarl.

Back to the N95... I do see a lot of folk moaning about the sat nav it but it served me well. Mine always seems to get a lock fairly quickly and the routes it suggests are usually pretty much on the money. Guess it wasn't too difficult in grid-like MK though. That said, I'll probably end up in a field tomorrow.

I've got Tom Tom installed on mine so that I don't have to use the built-in awful satnav. Luckily, I already have a Tom Tom GPS bluetooth unit.

I don't use the GPS feature, but I've done a few route tests and it seems to suggest generally-sensible routes. Pretty much identical to my mate's TomTom machine, to be honest. Seems to have lost its knack of not getting a lock as well - has been within 1-2 minutes to get a lock since the last firmware upgrade (v12). For no money on top of a phone I would have bought anyway it's a nice addition to my mind.
