Help! m660i vs p990i?
Hi all,
Looking @ expansys, the UK only has the m600i, and the p990i. My uncle has the m660i (probably few diffs) but I did notice the lack of a camera, which has me leaning towards the 990i. What I do like about the 660 is that it is SMALL for a PDA phone, but the 990i does seem massive. Any thoughts on this? Comments are much needed

I had a P900, still do, and I really like(d) it. It had some rough treatment from myself, for instance the plastic underneath the keypad had broken away, a blemish on the screen from where I sat on it on a box of tic-tacs, that kind of thing
![]() The software is good, although on the P900 it was a little slow, the CPU seemed underpowered but I'm sure this has been fixed in the P990. As an example, I could text faster than predictive text could keep up, and keypad presses when writing a text would slow down horribly if there was an incoming call or text. I upgraded to an HTC Wizard (MDA Vario), which I love (but you won't, it runs Windows ). Theres still a few things about the Sony I wish it had, and to a certain extent, vice versa.OOoooooooh, how could I forget? The one thing in the P900 that REALLY irritated me, and I would be shocked to see if this wasn't fixed in the P990, was the way draft messages worked. If you wrote a text, or email, or whatever, and went off to go do something else it would save it as a draft, excellent. No. You could not get back to that draft via the keypad, you have to open up the phone, get to the drafts folder, then close it again and continue writing the message. Why oh why could this not be done via the keypad?! Nothing to do with the P990i, but maybe useful none the less? Stuff to investigate anyway

Have had a SE P800, the predecessotr to the P900. Have since upgrade to a Windows Mobile 5 phone. Althought the new phone is a lot more powerful, the SE was easy to use, less buggy and usually ran things faster. The Symbian operating system (used by the P-series phone) is a lot less resource hungry than WM5 IMO.

Software-wise, they're almost identical. The main differences are that the P990i has a 2MP camera and 802.11b WiFi, whilst the m600i is a lot thinner.
If you can live without a camera and WiFi, I'd go for the m600i. |

Well, I had a P900, P910 and then moved away to a O2 mini XDA (PPC2003) and now I'm using a O2 Atom (WM5.0)... I will find it very difficult to go back to Symbian devices.
Yesterday, I was in an SE Shop and asked to test the P990 they had on display. Unfortunately the battery was too low and I only seen the animated SE logo while switching it on lol .. And I had to dash as I had a meeting so couldn't wait for the saleman to go get another battery. One thing that I did notice is that the sylus looked of poor quality compared to those I use now. The size and weight are approximately the same as the P900/P910.. So not much of an issue for those who used this kind of phone. I will get back to the shop when I can to test the softs that are inlcuded and the performance, when I find some time. I heard that the new Symbian OS is far better than the previous one I had on the P910. Well, if it is good and can perform well, I might want to try using a PXXX series phone again... but I doubt it. WM5.0 is so good ovreall... |
