the motorola k1 looks quite nice but I think it's time I got a better OS/UI and software package... Currently I'm humming and haaing between the W850i and the W810i... contract prices are better for the 810, the 850 is more up to date, battery life is reportedly similar but I'd have thought the 850 with 3g radio would suffer there?

Sony Ericsson W800i and upwards should be good. The series sports healthy battery life, nice camera, and good mp3 function. Memory expansion of course is Memory Stick Duo, which is a bit pricier than other types though. I myself have never fancied clamshell or sliding/twisting operation, a handphone's gotta be straight forward . Accidental clicking is not an excuse since they all have keylock function.

vodafone are starting to annoy me now. Some sales team of theirs keeps ringing me up to ask me why I'm leaving, fails to offer me anything better and then kind of flounder and start asking the same questions again. They also randomly ask me at the start of the call for security info which I refuse to give them, though sometimes they don't bother asking... data protection? what data protection? sigh. Still, I've worked out how to set up an "Ignore" group with silent as its ring-tone Went and had a look at a w850 in an orange store today ... looks rather nice, and I figure that although the free data (unlimited email/web/yahoo messenger) blackberry offer is tempting that the £30 that costs per month compared to the £16 pm (after cashback) for the w850 isn't worth it... maybe next year there will be a more refined phone with that sort of offer I can dream! now to check if I will be allowed to force the phone into 2G only mode with orange-branding to get three times the battery life...

i just got a samsung d900 on o2 contract, last year i had the k750i, although i prefer the look and feel of the d900 there are still a couple of features that imiss from from the sonyericcsson phones - the bluetooth remote (was very useful and simple) as well as being able to choose where the contacts are displayed from i.e. either from sim or phone memory, i know its only little but its a tad annoying having to display both on the samsung phone. i am happier with the d900 though, great video camera, o.k. stills camera compared to the k800. if u want a good camera i would go with the k800 but if thats not too important to you the d900 is a great choice it is alot smaller than most phones on the market especially ones with 3mp cameras.

I wouldn't mind if there was no camera on the phone - I barely ever use them! not a patch on my stand alone digital camera and I'm always thinking about upgrading that! ![]() important features for my new phone are size (small enough to be pocketable) reliability and speed (V3 is rather sluggish and its OS is starting to misbehave more and more) PC sync & connectivity (will learn to put up with silly proprietary sony connector though) media / entertainment (mp3 player, radio always nice, able to accept open source java games a bonus) as the w850 is a 3g phone it must have the option to force it to be 2g-only to conserve the battery ... might have to go back past the orange store to ask if I will be able to do that...
