    Need PDA recommendations

    Hi all

    A friend of mine needs a PDA, I have no idea about these things so I thought I'd come here for help

    These are the things he needs to do:

    * Basic image editing - line drawings and stuff, he's an archaeologists so he'd use it to draw rough plans while on site
    * Basic office functionality - word, excel etc
    * Browse t'intarweb wirelessly, check emails and stuff
    * Synchronise with his laptop
    * Be able to hook up one of those keyboard thingummies, for use in libraries when doing research
    * Also needs car charger and docking cradle
    * Be able to connect GPS would also be nice

    Budget of ~£250 give or take.

    Can anyone recommend anything?

    Cheers

    I'm out of touch with current models, but for the GPS side, my preference was to find a model with both SD card and CompactFlash slots. You can then use SD card for data, and a hard-connected CF GPS receiver. That avoids using either a cabled GPS receiver, or a Bluetooth one (with both the cost and connectivity issues of the latter).

    Mine's an iPaq 2110, which fitted my needs perfectly, but I doubt you can still get them.

    The Dell Axim v51v - it retails at £320, but, Dell usually have offers on bringing it down to £250-270 (£268 atm). Only thing it won't do out the box is connect to the internet - you'd need a bluetooth mobile or something to get a internet connection unless there's going to be wifi around.

    Got one myself, great thing. Quite happily works with my bluetooth mobile in my pocket browsing the web

    Most of the new HTC models coming out with GPS built in, should be available of the mobile networks (Re branded as Vario, XDA etc) soon.
