    How times change

Just phoned Orange to Cancel my contract (Virgin are offering £10pm for 300mins/300txts). No interest in trying to keep me at all.

This contact has to be >4 years old too. Spent thousands with them.

Last time I rang up, they offered me the usual new phone, which I took. This time was a direct "It will be disconnected in 30 days".

    Crikey !

Yeah, i gave up on Orange about 4 years ago. I remember when their customer service was the dogs.

What happens when you live off of your name

I'd also like to add that most telecoms / ISP companies have shocking customer services, ironically lacking internal communication between departments for example.

The only thing these characters typically do right is bill you on time and even THEN I've heard some unsettling stories from some companies...

The mobile phone companies are starting to realise they are not a charity and market share ain't the be all and end all, the ARPU (annual revenue per user) is much more important.

I pay £32 a month line rental and barely go over that so I am going to have to pay a lot for my upgrade they get the money from you one way or another.

I'd recommend getting a contract with '3' using the numerous '12 months free line rental' deals on numerous websites (Don't know if I'm allowed to mention companies or not).
I'm currently on a 12 month contract with 12 months free line rental. I get 600 free anytime minutes per month and 400 texts!!
This is of course a cashback deal, but if you're willing to send an email 4 times during the 12 month period to claim the money back, you end up paying nothing all year!

Their latest "scam" - well not a scam but more a twisting of words.. that ive been bitten with when i renewed with o2 online... ive been with them since the days they were genie and offered unlimited free txt messages! - must be going on 7-8 years now as i got the phone in college!

Basically i got a £100 credit against my account and £10 line rental.. the way they explained it was "free line rental for 10 months" but they sneakily changed the terms ie MMS messages are chargeable, and they changed my free minutes to offpeak only.. so 6 months down the line my £100 credit ran out, and im now paying about £35 a month to keep the phone

TBH im not really bothered about it.. i like to talk - but i think ill just take the new phone next time

My first mobile was on Orange, was with them for quite a few years, only left after I had some nightmares with customer services.

After that went to T-Mobile, left them as the signal at the office was sucky (but fantastic at home), customer service was indifferent.

Then onto Vodafone, again only for a year, their price plans just seemed uncompetitive, and customer service wasn't that good.

Then with O2 for a couple of years. First upgrade process was fantastic, customer service worked out quite good.

When it came to my last upgrade on O2, I was considering going back to Orange for one of the 500minutes/unlimited texts/unlimited calls to magic number package. Even though I'd been adding a good £20-£30 on top of my basic charges making way too many calls, they didn't really offer me anything to stay.

So I'm back with Orange again. So far customer service has been quite good though, which has been pleasantly surprising.

the original offer was with a 'phone - I haven't checked recently because I've twisted O2s arm so much over the years that there's no real incentive to move.

Just changing their name - NTL already owned Virgin Internet & now they've bought Virgin Mobile (Branson keeps a 25% stake or something).
