ASUS Maximus V Gene Z77 motherboard Preview/Review 8 Pack style!!!!

Hey all. Over the next few weeks I am gonna be previewing, reviewing and generally having a good time (thrashing) seeing what the new Maximus V Gene Z77 chipset board can do. I will be building on this post nearly everyday adding new information and benchmarks as I go. All forum members please do chip in and ask for any tests you want to see. Iniially I will be showing this Z77 chipset based board with current CPU's and as soon as NDA is over with new CPU technology. I am pleaaed to say evan with current CPU's this board has pushed my limits up interms of both mhz and timings on both RAM and CPU. Its amazingly good at clocking 4 DIMM configuations a problem with previous chipset 1155 boards. Most of the testing I have done so far with the board has been with the new gen CPU's and only a couple of hours thus far have been spent on past gen. I will endeavour to add benchmark results for the current generation CPU's namely 2700K ASAP. Bios updates by the day are keeping me busy with further testing, but each one is yielding better and better clocking, stability and performance results. Thanks to Shamino for his excellent work with this and the support he has offered me.

Common componnents Used for all testing:
    M5G (various Bios)
    Antec HCP 1200w PSU
GSkill RAM 16gb (4x4gb) currently 2133mhz 9-11-10-28 2T Kit with higher rated stuff on the way!!!!
2 x ASUS 7970 watercooled with Koolance blocks in Xfire
    120gb Corsair GT SSD
EK and Koolance CPU waterblocks (Thanks to SPECIAL TECH for supplying the watercooling!!!!)
Water Chiller set to 16C so as to give results that others could replicate.

Ok lets start with some pics of the board its self:

    Shot at 2012-03-13

IO Panel, USB3, On CPU VGA out, Audio, ROG connect etc etc Standard IO from ASUS!!!!

Chipset Heat SInk, SATA Ports 4 Intel Ports 2 are 6gb, 2 ASmedia both are 6 Gb, 24 Pin Power, Go Button, LN2 Jumper!!! Again familiar but essential ROG stuff!!!

Robust VRM heatsink, that I must say does not get too hot at all evan with high power delivery!!!

ASUS 7970 Crossfire,, Standard 2 slot spacing.

Power and Reset are easy to reach at the base of the board along with standard USB and Audio headers

Comprehensive Pics of the extensive overclocking settings within Bios will be up next!!!!!!! This Bios is a system and memory tweakers heaven!!!

Familiar??? It should be if your a ROG UEFI user of the recent past.

    Extensive Voltage Control!!!

Further Voltage tweaks and Essential skew setting for BLK clocking!!! also the BLK recovery setting which means if you push the BLK to far and the system wont boot teh bios automatically recovers the system by returning BLK to 100.0!!!

    Digi Power Sub menu.

More memory tweaking options than ever seen before!!! High clocks and high performance its all in here!!!

There is also many more RAM preset timings for different IC's and configurations of RAM. All the popular clockers RAM is covered

Here we go then more presets than ever and they are sooooooooo useful I pulled out some old sticks of tight timings stuff for some benchies and the profile worked flawlessly staable and very very fast. Maybe more of this type of presets on R4E please Shamino.

Re: ASUS Maximus V Gene Z77 motherboard Preview/Review 8 Pack style!!!!

This weekends 2700K results are below. I am seeing what it can do with all 4 Dimm slots loaded with 4gb. This is so I can show the upgrade potential of the board for current CPU owners. The stability was unquestionable evan with all four slots heavily loaded something which cant be said for many other 1155 boards. All these tests are still on water cooling and truly attainable by your average user. The auto settiings in the Bios especially for memory settings make this a dream to get operating stable and to tune. Remember guys this is on a very early bios too infact since I did these tests Shamino has sent me two other Bios to test both of which offer new facilities and improvements in stability. The 3D benches are with two ASUS 7970 installed and again evan with this graphics fire power in Crossfire the board was rock stable with 4 dimms populated. The Prime stability shots are large FFT's all the settings used passed one hour memtest test 5 also in DOS.

    5ghz, DDR 2222 , 16gb Prime stable

    5ghz, DDR2222, 16gb AIDA stability stable.

    5.1ghz 16gb Prime stable

Re: ASUS Maximus V Gene Z77 motherboard Preview/Review 8 Pack style!!!!

So guys its been a while but as promised I have done some testing with the Maximus V Gene and the Ivybridge 3570K to show what this board is capable with the 3rd Gen Intel Core CPU. All tests are on WIndows 7 64 Bit. All DRAM overclocking appart from max frequency has been tested memtest stable before booting into windows at that frequency.

Firstly some BLK clocking results with CPU at stock and memory controller at stock so we can see what the board can do BLK wise. Almost 112 blk.

These are the max pi1mb and stable into windows clocks I achieved.

Now Some DRAM overclocking Max mem frequency DDR 2920. These GSkill Trident may go higher at these timings but this was the limit of the CPU's IMC

Some Gskill Pi low latency DRAM clocking (2 x 2gb). These DIMMS default is DDR1600mhz 7-8-7-24 -2T. These benches are all using the PSC profiles from within Bios and are tuned for performance with 1T command rate.

    Cas 8 with 1T

Using Max memory profile for PSC to test High BLK with these DIMMS 111 achieved and stable.

GSkill DDR2400 (4x4gb) DRAM overclocking at Cas 11 did not go any higher as for max memory frequency I had the higher Binned Trident sticks. With this I wanted to show stable overclocking on the Gene of DDR3 rated at 2400mhz 4 x 4gb (All slots populated) all the way up to 2826mhz. is possible. Showing its flexibility with DRAM types and amounts, whilst remaining stable.

Re: ASUS Maximus V Gene Z77 motherboard Preview/Review 8 Pack style!!!!

GSkill Trident DRAM overclocking these are 2666mhz 11-13-13-35-2T ,1.65v dimms. These DIMMS achieved 2920mhz as I showed earlier in my Maximum memory frequency screen shot and may well be capable of more just my CPU IMC was not.

They also achieved DDR 2875 stock timings XMP loaded stable.

Stability testing next CPU 5100mhz, DDR2800 Gskill Trident XMP. (This would be my 24/7 setting)

    Prime

    Hyper Pi amd Wprime

    Aida system stability.

2D next with CPU at 5250mhz and GSkill Trident at 2800mhz XMP. The CPU would clock higher but only by trimming back the memory frequency which I wanted to keep high to show what the board could do in terms of high CPU frequency and high memory frequency which is much more demanding on the board than just one or the other. These are the highest stable CPU and RAM at the same time overclocks I achieved and infact in most benchmarks produced a better score than RAW CPU mhz with lower frequency but very tight Timings DRAM. The DRAM frequency and bandwidth more than making up for higher CPU MHZ.

32mb Pi and UC Bench 2011

    Cinebench

    AIDA and Maxx MEM

PC Mark 07 with one 7970

PC mark Vantage 64 bit single 7970

Re: ASUS Maximus V Gene Z77 motherboard Preview/Review 8 Pack style!!!!

Some higher CPU mhz Benchmarks with tight timings GSKill PSC based dimm modules using the tight PSC profile from BIOS.

As you can see from the results this Board is simply superb with Ivy Bridge offering a comprehensive Bios and feature. Its truly stable with several RAM configurations and types and overclocks RAM very well obviously CPU IMC does make a difference here. Its also totally stable with all PCI Ex slots populated running two card crossfire. I can say for all the gamers that the cards worked very well in Crossfire and at Gen 3.0 which is supported by the Ivy Bridge CPU and was confirmed to be enabled by GPU -Z. I intend to next try a retail CPU which are supposed to have stronger IMC to test and post further results. Any questions you may have please do ask, or anything you think needs clarifying again please ask. Thanks to GSkill for providing the RAM for this review which performs very stable and clocks fantastically on this board.
