There has been a deafening silence from Asus but some people have speculated that the trouble lies with the Z87 chipset.

Maybe that is the mean reason for the developement of the Z97
This silence is not ok at all. I hope they have fixed it and have some kind of a solution for the current Z87 owners as well.

Are their any decent reviews of the ASUS Maximus HERO VII Z97 available yet?

Also any news on the Formula variant from ASUS ROG?
    Thanks,

Scan have now on offer the z97 msi gaming five for under £100 with the 20 quid cash back. Very very tempting for me despite having just build an amd rig around Christmas. I think these boards just look awesome!

I do not have that problem , you say its the chipset , but its asus related? , my MSI doesn't have any problems with the clock and pretty sure it has about the same chipset

Re: z97 Boards - Worth the wait?

Go for Z97 to give you a little more future proofing (at least until the next socket version), Broadwell compatibility and the M.2 slot. I still reckon Intel won't change the socket with Broadwell unless they run into serious manufacturing problems with an 1150 socket chip.

Also, right now there are Z97 boards cheaper than their Z77 predecessors.

Waiting for the MSI Z79I itx motherboard to come in stock on amazon. It is currently £100 which compared to other itx boards which offer less is a great deal. However it has been out of stock temporarily for the past week so hope next week it will come in stock.
