Best budget board for g3258 K

    Hey guys,

I was wondering what board would be best to try and make a budget build with the Intel G3258 Pentium K Anniversary?

Would like to try an overclock project.

    Kind Regards,

    Alex

Re: Best budget board for g3258 K

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Just be aware that many boards will need a bios flash before they work with the G3258. The exception may be Z97 boards but there's no guarantee that they will work with one out of the box. If the board does need a bios flash then you will need a earlier cpu such as a G1820 or G3220 (or a mate with a 4670 or similar but not DC or Haswell refresh) to flash it. Most Asus boards have removeable bios chips so you could pick up the correct chip flashed to the latest bios on the bay.

Re: Best budget board for g3258 K

I recently put a G3258K into an MSI Z87I AC

As pastymuncher says though, I needed to flash the board to the most recent BIOS before it'd work. A Great little system though

What's that board like MrJim? Any overclocking available? It's a extremely good price for it.

For the money, it's great I think. Yes it's overclockable with current CPUs, but I'm not sure whether it'll be compatible with the upcoming Broadwell desktop CPUs.

They produce a Z97I AC which is considerably more expensive (and definitely compatible)

Re: Best budget board for g3258 K

I have the MSI Z87I motherboard (non gaming) and so far I can't overclock the G3258 cpu manually.

It will overclock using genie though to 4.3ghz.
