I'll start with two I currently like , one well known the other probably not. ( the originals i mean )

Oooo excellent thread. I don't know what it is about cover songs but they are irresistable.
I'll start with Don't Let It Bring You Down by Annie Lennox
and Hurt by Johnny Cash
Probably my favourite two!
Neon Trees singing Justin Bieber's "Baby". Shows Bieber for what he really is, talentless.
or Foo Fighters doing "Band on the Run"
Lol it is probably one of the more famous ones, I didn't disappoint you too much did I? :P
All Along the Watchtower, but then I find most of Dylan's songs are better when they're sung by someone else...
I love some of the cover versions that Muse have done, like this:
Feeling good
House of the rising sun
Cake did a good cover of I will survive, there a lot more I like but these were the first three that came to mind when I saw this thread. I might add more later.
Feeling Good by Muse is unbelievable, was just about to add that! Another one that just popped into my head is
Dancing in the Moonlight by Toploader
Absolute tuuunes in here!
sweet dreams !!! I knew it !!
all we need is for someone to post DM covers and I'll scream.

Even if you've not heard the original (of which there multiple 'originals' ;) ) its an awesome cover.
Edit: FWIW the Live Lounge albums are actually really good IMO.
Another Hendrix cover.
*goes back to what he should be doing - answering "Is the legislative branch of government in the U.K. of declining significance? Does it matter if it is?” * :(
