I want to pick some movies for watching on Thanksgiving day. Do you guys have any good movies for family to recommend? What movies would you like to watch on Thanksgiving Day?

But we do have harvest festival in churches and schools, which is a rough equivalent to Thanksgiving. It's just not socially the same thing here, as we have a completely different concept of nation and self when compared to our American cousins.
That said, a nice celebratory and uplifting family film would be the one - and most of those will be American greats anyway. Top of the pile would be 'It's a Wonderful Life'. A more modern suggestion would be 'Ratatouille'.
Disney's Pocahontas or Avatar would fit right in
I never understood thanksgiving, seems like a horrible act which should not be celebrated...

There's a nice family film/miniseries called Love On The Land (also known as Seasons Of Love), set just after the civil war about a farming family. Not my usual kind of film, but a friend is in it and seems like the kind of thing that I'd watch with the whole family.
Beware: It is 4 hours long and, if you're a soppy git like me, the ending might make you cry... in a happy way, though.
Kevin, the only one that immediately comes to mind is Planes, Trains and Automobiles, an 80's comedy with Steve Martin and John Candy. It's set right before Thanksgiving. Depending on the content standards of your family it might be a bit rough around the edges, some of the language can be a bit crass in parts. There's a brief summary of content here which might help you to assess if it's suitable or not. It does have a sort of warm 'Thanksgiving' ending.
Otherwise, how about 'The Blind Side'. *Batteries Not Included ( a feel good sci-fi from the 80's which sort of has a an element of thanksgiving or gratitude and remembrance), Secondhand Lions is another feel good film with a family element to it, or for something different March of the Penguins if you like nature. There's no doubt loads more.
If you can specify a favourite genre or era for movies we could try to recommend some. If you like 80's movies, or classic movies, for example, we could be more specific. How old are your kids?

No trees were harmed in the creation of this message. However, many electrons were displaced and terribly inconvenienced.
I prefer live acting to movies, so a trip to the West End would be more my kind of thing. Sadly the run's finished, but I would have recommended Spamalot.
Just not any old Christmas ones for a change. Sick of Christmas, worst time of the year
