    Alien: Covenant (spoiler-free)

Saw this last night. Was quite impressed.

Not without its' flaws: unintentially amusing at times, characters inexplicably stupid from time to time, themes could have been developed further.

However, the acting is strong; while it starts off slow, it isn't boring, and while the final third is a little predictable (if you go to an Alien movie expecting unpredictability, you're doing this wrong), it was well-enough signposted without being too obvious and extremely well-paced overall. SFX are good enough, though not mind-blowing; acting is strong, Michael Fassbender in particular is fantastic. Storyline within the wider franchise is compelling.

4*s out of 5 for me. Moderators, you should probably not see it as there's a fair amount of profanity in the film. Otherwise, if you're a fan of the franchise, go see it.

No one does sci-fi like R. Scott. The movie looks beautiful. But it does seem like the movie is conflicted and confused on what it wants to be. You can easily see that this movie wanted to be Promethus 2 but someone wanted to sell the whole "Alien" part, to get the audience in. It also may be in reaction to the major criticisms of the first Promethus, who was expecting more Aliens but they got deep movie with all talk of God and creation.

Ok movie but the overall feel is confused and imbalanced. It tries to give you 2 things and ends up giving you 2 halfs. And some will feel it would have been better either give a full Promethus movie or a full Alien movie.

    6/10

Well we went to see it last night and I am actually not sure what to make of it. It was a ok film but we left disappointed and wanted more out of it. For now I will give it 5/10 but this may be altered when it's launched on Blu-Ray and I have seen it again. Some of the things that happened you could see coming from a mile off, including the end.

The way I perceived it was that it was well-signposted rather than obvious - again, going to see a franchise and expecting to be surprised should not go together. In actual fact, I was suprised, as I was expecting a kinda second ending, whereas instead, they went for the bleaker resolution, which kinda takes guts, imo.

    Re: Alien: Covenant (spoiler-free)

I watched the film this afternoon, in what I consider ideal surroundings - we were literally the only people in the auditorium! I really enjoyed the film, although it was perhaps a bit predictable. It will be interesting to see where Ridlly Scott takes the series from here.
