    Fringe: worth persevering?

Hi all recently got given the first 3 seasons of Fringe, I've only watched the first 2 episodes but not loving it so far. It's ok, but not brilliant. Just wondered if anyone can advise me if it picks up and gets better, or if I'm unsure of it now am I likely to stay nonchalant about it the whole way through? I loved Alias so assumed I would this too seen as it is also JJ Abrams, maybe I just need to give it a chance x

The final season the storyline is all over the place.

Saying that though, I'm gutted that Fox shelved it.

It does get better, then weirder. Worth a few more episodes if you've got them sitting around because the overall arc becomes much more interesting than the "monster of the week" style that I remember of the first couple of episodes. I still need to pick it back up actually, I fell out of touch with it around season four when I got into Breaking Bad.

Yeah, definitely keep watching...It does take a few episodes to get rolling.

It makes you like it, somehow. Even when the stories aren't good, you'll forgive it because you like it.

Oddly, it is that rare beast, namely a show with a proper storyline. I think the reason it can feel a bit slow getting into is because it is really slow. The story develops really well There's a logic to the construction that, unfortunately is missing from most sci-fi series. Yes you do still get some stand alone episodes but mostly you get a real sense of a really well thought out story.

Fringe shelved? They are filming the final 13 episodes, with the first of them due to air on the 28th of September.

The wife and I both really enjoy Fringe. As with many series it sags in some episodes but the story arc is well worth the perseverance.

Agree, S4 was weaker than S2 and S3 which I thought were better than S1.

    Re: Fringe: worth persevering?

I have to say, it took me a few episodes to decide if I truly liked the show. Though I'd say about 1/4 of the way through the first season, I was hooked and eagerly watched the rest.

    Re: Fringe: worth persevering?

I took a break from fringe at around new year, it had just gotten too convoluted for me to make any sense of it. Especially with big gaps between seasons, leaving intricate cliffhangers to remember which im not 100% confident i understand anyway. The same thing happened with Lost.

That said, id encourage anyone to watch s1-3 if they havent allready, it really does build and build (although perhaps thats also the reason i stopped)

I really enjoyed the portrayal of walters casual drug-taking, was constantly amazed that they allowed that on air

    Re: Fringe: worth persevering?

It never became one of my favourites, in the end... kinda share the "good but nothing amazing" feeling.

I watched it up until the end of season 3, which to be fair was pretty good, and then totally lost interest for season 4... I've still not bothered to catch up.

    Re: Fringe: worth persevering?

Worth it for Walter alone, he's one of my favourite characters ever.

When I heard about it it was tipped to be the new X-Files but I'm glad it's not, X-Files was too dry for my liking although I did enjoy it.

    Re: Fringe: worth persevering?

It is nearly over and if you have followed it for 3 seasons then follow it to the end.

Yes the storyline went all over the place for a bit but it is all slowly coming together.
