    Pendulum - In Silico

Not bad, but was expecting so much more after their first amazing album.

Really feel they have tried to go mainstream on it and will alienate a few fans. Quite a few tracks are slower than I would have liked.

edit - and whats with the vocals?

I found it a bit samey - felt I could skip tracks and not necessarily notice.

    Yup, would agree with that.

There isn't many tracks I would consider club anthems either. You hear Slam come on in a club and almost everyone will be up dancing to it.
Then again, lyrics really don't help that.

Hmm... I feel the same Ade.

I played it to the Mrs and she asked if 1 of the tracks was the foo fighters when it was in fact Propane Nightmares.

I can hear that they've tried to fuse a rockier style sound into a few of their tracks, but like you've said it's not hit the spot like the first album did. Also, this rockier sound also gives them the ability to have drummers and guitarists on stage when doing a live session, instead of just 3 guys behind a set of decks and PC's for the samples lol

Even the stuff they did with other people / groups were on the whole were better - take Painkiller for example.
Lyrics and will get people up in a club. Really think they have missed a big chance here.

Lyrics don't seam to do it any favours, their not sung in a voice thats got the practically erotic voice trance would have. Its almost indie synth band teritory, only even bronski beat had a better sounding vocal.

The album opens very badly compared to hold your colour, "somewhere out there in the vast nothingness of space" is just so much better than some indie ranting from someone who's yet to learn how to actually move their mouth and pronounce words.

But thankfully the do seam to follow the same idea of getting to a practically instrumental track when your two fifths of the way through the album.

Bought it on my lunch today, listened to it once completely, have no desire to play it again today. Thats the difference between this and hold your colours, i wounder what i'll think after 3 more months.

I personally thought it was a very good album. If you try to compare it to Hold Your Colour then obviously it's quite likely to be a disappointment to many, because that was a great album that will probably go down as a classic.

Give it another listen, forget that it's Pendulum and try to forgot the high expectations that you might have had, just enjoy the album for what it is.

Hold your colour was good, but not great. It was also pretty mainstream IMHO, so will be interesting to hear how this is if you consider this to be a mainstream step. I just missed seeing them live, but based on the single I heard, I'm not that fussed.

I liked the versatility they are pushing with themselves, but I can agree that they are probably alienating a lot of fans with this...

I personally really like Propane Nightmares, its good to have a bit more vocals going on throughout a track. I need to have a listen to the rest of the album tracks a few more times before I make my mind up about the album for a whole though, quite impressed by my first listen through. I really liked the live set they did for Radio One's Big Weekend.

Propane Nightmares at the start makes me feel like I'm sitting in a little Spanish restaurant in Ibiza, just before the waiter comes up and gives me the menu.
This then moves into an almost 'Muse' style of music / whining from the singer, before we finally hit a bit of beat.

I was almost asleep by that point.

Its not bad once it gets going, but its still distinctly average.

    Urgh.

Listening to it now and it doesnt seem to be as fast, The Other Side and Mutiny for example. Munitny sounds like a jazzed up pop tune to me. Sounds like they have taken the number 2 added some random beats to it and speeded up some terrible vocals.

And Propane Nightmares does sound like your sitting in a Spanish restaurant during the intro.
