MPA closes guitar tab sites
Unfreakingbelieavable. In the face of legal action, MxTabs has been added to list of guitar tab sites closed down by the Music Publisher's Association.
What next? Banning musical instruments to stop people making their own covers of songs so that they won't have to buy the original? Better yet, ban singing. This is atrocious and I am genuinely angry right now. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4508158.stm BBC's take. [EDIT: Just realised that the MPA president called Lauren is a bloke ]

I'm FURIOUS!
How can they ban them, there's nothing illegal about them!?!!oneonegrrr All the tabs on MXTabs were written out by people the way they like to play them... Whats the harm?! Being a musicican myself (well, i'm a bassist, the lazy guitarist), it almost feels like its a personal thing. Oh god i'm so furious i can't actually express what i'm trying to say. ARGH! |

When an album is released, only the song writer/s get money from the copyright licencing, this is why noel gallagher for eg is alot richer than the rest of the band.

I'm personally really annoyed at this. I play guitar and have been for about 7 years (im only 17) and have used tabs for nearly all the songs i have learnt, infact i have a folder neatly arranged full of songs that i play (ranges from metallica to Spill Canvas) and the news that they will need a licence if this is true is even worst as i go down to my local guitar shop alot asi know the owner and try out alot of the new guitars he gets in (i do this as i cant afford to buy them lmao).
This is bad news for us younger guitarists that have learnt using tabs. Benji boy

What next, they ban freedom of speech? The freedom to express yourself?

yeah, everything will be banned in the future, hopefully they'll ban work soon as too much of a health risk and we can all stay in bed. i expect the nhs will have to improve though, so that they have enough nurses for home visits. i expect they'll ban religion next, especially christianity, so as not to offend other religions. personal freedom is becoming less and less. christmas will be banned next year too, unless it's renamed to "shoppingmas".

Open source music released under the GPL... that's a decent idea of mine
![]() Banning work would be no bad thing if that included school, health and saftey are absolutely ridiculous on tiny things which just a bit of sense stops people doing and no parent would sue for as it would obviously be the students fault - however H&S still try and ban it or correct it Life is a huge danger, freedom is a huge danger, shut it down I say. |

Lol.
I'm gutted. I notice, though that some sites aren't blocked yet. What about mags? Magazines like Total Guitar aquire liscenses before printing tabs, don't they? When's Hexus getting banned? |
