X-Men 3
Saw it yesterday,
Shortest of the three (1hr 40mins) but packs in a lot, does feel rushed though. I thought it was a pretty good end to the trilogy (and yes I know there are rumours of a 4th). Some of the plot twists are a bit arbitrary without giving too much away and some major characters from the previous films are simply not present. They did introduce some new characters, notably Angel and Juggernaut although their roles could be described as fairly minor. The final battle scene as described elsewhere did appear to be X-Men Vs The Extras although the minor mutants were impressive in their own right, visual effects etc were top notch as expected. Magneto and Wolverine absolutely stole the show as far as I was concerned, Ian McKellan is perfect for the role of caring tyrant for whom the end result is far more important than the means to achieve it. Hugh Jackson puts in an awesome performance and shows another side of Wolverine struggling to come to terms with the death of Jean Grey. Beast played by Kelsey Grammar was also very good. In all I'd give it a 4 cools out of 5 rating and would certainly see it again.

I absolutely LOVED X1 and X2 but.....
...X3 just has a crap story (whoever wrote the screenplay should be shot), crap plot, crap direction (Bret Ratner did a very poor job) and not enough characters for er, various reasons. Its just a complete rehash of elements from the first two films and it shows. The Beast character is a joke and Vinnie Jones shows that he should stick to being a hod carrier rather than a footballer or actor. The army of new mutants look like something out of the Rocky Horror Picture Show rather than characters with any genuine Marvel lineage. If the reason that Brian Singer walked away from this was due to the poor story, you can't really blame him. Overall 1/5. Last edited by davidstone28; 26-05-2006 at 06:03 PM.. |

i think 1/5 is a little unfair - but hey everyone's entitled to their opinion ![]() id say 3.5/5 but its def worth a watch

I was very disappointed with this film and it is by far the worst in the franchise.
There were just too many flaws in the film like the poor story, poor dialogue and there were just too many characters for my liking. In the end it was more of a fan service with the set pieces than a good film. |

I enjoyed this at the cinema but i was a bit dissapointed that some of the characters don't really follow the storylines i expected them to, i've only seen the original cartoons, but maybe different things happen in the comics. Hopefully there will be a 4th to tidy things up a bit. I'd give it a 3 out 5.

who the hell is angel? Any true fan would know its archangel.
Anyway, i thought it was good, the inclusion of archangel did seem completly arbitrary though, and i wanted to see some gambit. Anyone whose not seen this yet, wait till after all the credits for a bonus bit, which is a bit pointless, but still quite cool

saw this last night... enjoyed it.
ok so some bits I was a little annoyed at - various people being killed off and the like that they could have used more (more than just token effort I mean) - but on the whole I thought it was a pretty good romp of mutant bashing and flying around. thankfully it wasn't entirely explosions and fights driven but did try to have a bit of character history. Last one was wolverine's history-type thingy and this time it was different. impressive special effects when they were used, and to such a magnitude in the climax of the film certainly goes under the heading of 'cool'. Thought the archangle (I believe thats his superhero name) character could have been used more as I feel he was more of a symbolic/idealistic one representing more than just himself, yet that was never made a point. for such a cool character idea he could have been included more. other characters I thought were good were beast (excellent role for 'Frasier', very appropriate casting there) and the obvious wolverine (hugh jackman's pedigree is now very well established, he's in something else coming up soon so have to see how that is), Ian mcKellen really did it for me as the misguided yet ultimately understandable mutant fighting for mutants (rather than the x-men jsut getting on with life) - I can't help feeling the x-men is analoguous to star wars in so much as magneto and vader (anakin skywalker) share similar fates. where we see at the very beginning of the first x-men film magneto as a child in the war camp we tend to follow his often doomed attempts at trying to win one over on the humans opposed to them - I'm not going to spoil it for the rest of you but suffice to say thats my take on it. I loved the very last scene...nice touch. and I'd just like to add: mmm...mystique ![]() edit: herulach: there were bits at the end? damn, what was it?
Please, Don't ask for that one 'as a desktop'...its really not worth wasting your time asking, unless you're able to pay £££?

Saw it last weekend - loved every moment of it. Fantastic effect sequences, very funny moments and some actors i just love watching - mcKellan, stewart, jackman, grammar (unexpected) et al. Vinnie jones most amusing too.
I was in the mood for entertainment and that's what i got I think the key with such things is to take them as intended - as tongue-in-cheek entertainment. And yes, last scene was very nice - just subtle enough to leave the door open (shiato: you had to watch the chess piece very carefully) 5/5 from me and the wife
