    HDD Divx Media Player

Ok guys I was just browsing around on ebay when I came across this little item.
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/HDD-DivX-Media-Pl...QQcmdZViewItem

An external HDD that playes divx files on its own and its firmware is upgradeable, it sounds like a very inexpensive way of watching media files on my tv without having to build myself a dedicated Media PC.
I would like to know if anybody has ever used one before amd their thoughts on it.

Looks good, but I'd recommend getting a cheap xbox and put Xbox Media Center on it.

The xbox would probably work out cheaper than the HDD media player you are looking at and will have more features.

That looks like a good deal. I'm assuming it comes with the 320gb drive? I've seen these media players for around £30 without a harddrive inside.

Just had a look at that ebay link and that player has no optical output, so no 5.1 sound.

I'm using a Freecom Network Mediaplayer. It's only slightly larger than an external 3.5" HDD case and fanless. The player comes without a disk making it easy to add whatever size you want and it's just as easy to swap out one disk for another. The disks are formatted using NTFS and the case also has a USB port so you can use the disk just like an external disk.

The network part allows the player to be used as a UPnP client and stream audio/video from a UPnP server.

The player is actually a Mediagate MG-35 and with the latest firmware you can use the player as an NDAS fileserver. You'll have to pay an extra ~$20 for the NDAS key.

My player has a 300GB disk installed and streams another 600GB from my UPnP server, Linksys NSLU2 running TwonkyMedia.

Well I do not need 5.1 sound so thats not a problem for me. I just want a reliable way of viewing divx files as I am currently using a DVD player that will not read all versions of divx and has some problems with audio too.

Check out the Normus NTS 7500 . it does a gr8 job with almost all formats. Is easy to use and most of all is not expensive.

    Re: HDD Divx Media Player

I use a sumvision Cyclone enclosure with a 500 Gb drive installed for all my divx playback when not playing them through an xbox 360.

it is excellent, apart from it doesn't like folders with full stops instead of spaces such as name.year.format but a simple renaming works fine.
