Re: Your broadband speed - post here

That's way better than most people had in 1999. I think it was 2003 before I got 512kbps ADSL, and I was an early adopter on my exchange.

I must get a figure up for my current peak time fibre connection: around 3Mbps download speed, around 15Mbps upload speed. Now *that's* a joke...

Re: Your broadband speed - post here

That really is quite poor, and IIRC way below what should be set aside per connection (I forget the exact terminology) at the DSLAM.

I assume your sync speed is reasonably high given the upstream performance? Also, which provider are you with?

I think it qualifies as a fault below 15Mbps if the low speed is down to the distribution network, but it might be different if it's down to the ISP's network.

thats because they throttle you if you go over an allocation over a set period of time.

i left them last year because of it.

6.5 meg down, 340K up. On BT in a remote rural location, so I'm very pleased with this. Fairly consistent. Mind you, ebay still takes ages to do anything.

In Hull, only choice is Karoo. Their Broadband was rubbish (only good between 0:00 and 7:00am) but their FO is pretty good (a little bit pricey but actually unlimited, never drops below 100Mb and no throttling).

Re: Your broadband speed - post here

Enquired about Tivo and found that I could self-install in place of Virgin box for £20 delivery. New package includes upgraded broadband for £1 more than I was paying - for the first 6 months it is actually £1.50 less

Do wish we all had higher upload speeds but seeing all these 100+ down is nice

    Tell me about it Jimbo.

This is what I have on my linode...

Now if we could have that at home...
A colleague of mine has just had fibre installed (just outside Paris) and he's getting around 250Mb down, 50Mb up. He's a happy bunny!
