| Squirrely | Cant acess internet, but can access internet programes (xfire,WoW..) Ok so at home we have a Netgear DG834G router that my brother was trying to access to find the security code needed to connect a laptop to the network. (im away @uni) I told him how to do it and its all pretty simple by putting in the default IP 192.168.0.1, and entering the password. He said that it wouldnt let him in and after a few tries he just gave up even though i gave him the right stuff but i think he may have not use CAPS... Anyway he claims the internet was all working fine and then the next day he tries to open IE it has webpage not displayed etc etc. But other stuff that access the internet will work such as Xfire, Wow, but not MSN. Im guessing its a firewall thing but im not sure how he could have changed anything seeing as he couldnt access the setup for the router and (i guess, plus he wouldnt know how) to mess with the actual firewall on AV. Now he says that after entering the netgear IP nothing happens any ideas why it wont connect? |

| Re: Cant acess internet, but can access internet programes (xfire,WoW..) I have a netgear router with my sky broadband and sometimes MSN doesn't connected unless router is rebooted. Worth a try if he hasn't already. |

| Squirrely | Re: Cant acess internet, but can access internet programes (xfire,WoW..) ok, its hard to get to the problem by him telling me whats wrong and then me guessing having to guide him through fixing it over Xfire :/ i think it might be the AV firewall tho.. investigating further |

| Re: Cant acess internet, but can access internet programes (xfire,WoW..) check IP address by start>run>cmd In the DOS window type ipconfig /all. Whatever the address that comes up will be your router's access IP. Usually to get in is admin then password (except for Sky router). |

| Re: Cant acess internet, but can access internet programes (xfire,WoW..) Can he connect directly to the router (cable)? I presume he's connecting wirelessly now. Type in the router address as above then log in. It may be set to auto-update itself. Mine did a while ago and I had to go through everything again. |

I have seen issues like these with damaged windows installs though, pray it isn't that as I have only seen the issue fixed via a complete re-install =S Main PC: Asus P6T6 WS Revo / i920 @ 4GHz / 12GB DDR3-1600 / 4870x2 + 8600GTS / Areca 1680 / Xonar D2X / Seasonic M12-700 / 2x Dell 3007 / Win 7 x64 Ultimate Main PC Raid Setup: 2 x 80GB G2 Intel SSD (OS and Apps - RAID0) / 2 x 64GB Samsung SSD (Games - RAID0) / 4 x 1TB Sumsung F1 (Mass Storage - RAID5) Spare PC: Asus Blitz Formula / Q6600 @ 3.4GHz / 6GB DDR2-6400 / 8800GTX / X-Fi Fatal1ty / Xclio 700W Modular / Dell 2405 / Various SATA drives / Win 7 x64 Ultimate HTPC: ASRock ConRoe945G-DVI / E5300 / 4GB DDR2-6400 / HD4550 / TH50PHD9 / 2 x 1.5TB Samsung F2 / LG GGW-H10N / Win 7 x86 Pro Server: Asus P5K / Q9550 / 8GB DDR2-8000 / Matrox G550 / Areca 1210 / 2 x 320GB Seagate 7200.10 / ESX 4.0 NAS: Thecus N5200 with 5 x WD6400AAKS (Modded to PRO) My latest 3DMark score | RAID Peformance | My DVD Collection |

| Re: Cant acess internet, but can access internet programes (xfire,WoW..) how do WoW server work? I know that xfire connects via IP. This could be an MTU problem, set it to 1400 and retest. |

| Re: Cant acess internet, but can access internet programes (xfire,WoW..) Are you sure it's not a problem with IE itself. I once, when antivirus / firewall was down for a few days, had some dodgy website change my internet explorer settings to connect via a dialer. Firefox on the other hand worked fine. Try checking out another web browser. |

| Re: Cant acess internet, but can access internet programes (xfire,WoW..) Any possibility that he's set a proxy server in his browser? I know MSN tries to use whatever proxy is specified in there... Please consider sponsoring me to run 10k for the Alzheimer's Society, it would mean a lot to me. |

| Squirrely | Re: Cant acess internet, but can access internet programes (xfire,WoW..) Got it sorted now, Was the AV firewall in the end. Dont know how the hell he managed to get the router IP and whatever is needed to access the browser blocked. Anyway deleting and creating a new profile seemed to do the job. And no FF didnt work either.. |
