BT Home Hub - Ethernet Dead?

Last night there was a thunderstorm which knocked out the power supply for a few seconds.

Ever since then, whenever I try to connect to my BT ADSL Broadband using Ethernet, it won't work - my BT Home Hub won't seem to recognize an Ethernet connection from either computer in the house. I'm using Windows XP SP2 with the original Home Hub.

It's possible to connect using USB, but USB is rubbish and I can only connect one computer using it, which is a huge problem.

The broadband itself is fine, it's just that my computer and my Home Hub don't seem to recognize that I'm using an ethernet connection. Re-using the original installation software, it tells me that I have a USB port available but no Ethernet.

What could the problem be? Is it possible to somehow reinstall Ethernet?

    Thanks & regards

Check in Device manager that your Ethernet is not yellow flagged. If it is you will have to re-install from your motherboard cd .

If the ethernet isn't working from either of the computers in your house then I suspect the thunderstorm has killed the ethernet port on the homehub.

    Hi M V T

you should try calling up bt and see what they could do about it.
    They might send a replacement.

Mine died too the other day.

40 min on hold before I got through to anyone at all.

A further 1 hour 20 min with the helpdesk.

All to prove that as I had said in the first place the home hub was dead.

They were however quite happy to agree to send me a replacement, I await its arrival as I type via my trusty old Origo ASR 8100 modem router.

since bt are stupid to create a call center in india. you may have noticed that the person in india repeats the problem which make you waste your time for a long time. i had to wait 2 hoursand 12 mins before i go through.

BT has Technical Help Desk in India for Residential customers, Business has THD in GB.

First try to do factory reset (remember to have UN & PW for BB connection):
push and hold the Wireless Association button (on the back panel) for about 15 seconds, until all the lights light up - then release it, it might take a while until Broadband and Internet lights are steady green.
Then try to connect to your hub with DHCP enabled on your network connection (obtain IP address automaticaly). If you'll not get IP address from Home Hub range (192.168.1.xxx) then you have no choice but to call BT and go trough their questions :-/

Well credit where credit is due.

Replacement home hub arrived yesterday by courier. Less than 24 hours after my call to them.

Kind of makes up for the 2 hour phonecall, well done BT.

Re: BT Home Hub - Ethernet Dead?

If anyone has BT Home Hub and have some problems with accessing GUI or Hub can't connect to BT network you should contact BT helpdesk as there is problem with last firmware upgrade and even if your home hub is out of warranty and the error is due to problem with new firmware you should receive new hub
