Powerline Network and Wifi Router setup
My main problem with my setup is knowing where to connect the wires. Currently the setup is powerline to #1 on router then #2 router to PC LAN connection. I am able to connect to the web but not the router itself through internet explorer. My PS3 will no longer connect to the web wirelessly through the router.
I have looked at my network maps with my USB Access point connected I am able to wifi with my router but the router is not connecting to the web and therefore my PS3 is not connecting to the web. In network maps I am showing as having 2 networks. 1 is my homeplug setup and the the other is my router, pc and ps3, unfortunately this will no longer connect to the web. I guess I need to know where to plug in the wires on the router so that it broadcasts the internet via wifi and the pc connects via the LAN. The PS3 is the only hardware that needs wifi for the web.
Sorry if this is confusing

or do you have 2 routers?
Re: Powerline Network and Wifi Router setup
No I have a DI 524 D Link router. My internet connection is via fibre optics no modem is required or router. I will try and draw a picture of my current setup and post it on here.
Re: Powerline Network and Wifi Router setup
do you get a CAT5 to the Dlink for the WAN connection?
Then you connect home plug to a plugsocket and cable them to the DLink?
Re: Powerline Network and Wifi Router setup
This is a quick map for you.

I currently have Powerline #2 plugged into Router LAN #1 and Router LAN #2 plugged into the PC, obviously this is wrong.
Re: Powerline Network and Wifi Router setup
and your router distributes your internet not your PC
Re: Powerline Network and Wifi Router setup
I guess it should do yes.
The confusion I have is where to place the router in the Powerline network, should it be at the start or at the end? Also do I need to plug one Cat 5 cable into the WAN socket on my router and then one into #1 LAN?
Re: Powerline Network and Wifi Router setup
I have a powerline kit
I have the internet going into the router the power line plugged into the router, like in the picture I linked above.
I am looking at your picture, you have your internet comming in, into your Powerline1 , that goes over the wires in the house then out of a second powerline adapter into your router?
you will need to plug it into your WAN on your router.
if you can, plug the internet right into your routers WAN port then use your powerline out of port one, your PC into your second powerline it should all work

Re: Powerline Network and Wifi Router setup
Thanks mate I will try it out and get back to you.
Re: Powerline Network and Wifi Router setup
Still no joy, the pc will only connect to the web if I plug in my USB Wifi AP. Windows is detecting 2 seperate networks but only the wifi one is working for the web. If I disconnect the AP from my PC then there is no internet. It seems that the internet will not go through my LAN connection on the router, not sure why.
Re: Powerline Network and Wifi Router setup
hmm
what make are your powerline adapters?
Re: Powerline Network and Wifi Router setup
I have it working now, thanks alot Jay. The issue was at my end forgetting to specify a certain IP address for my LAN card in my PC. My router is setup to only allow certain IP addresses access to the network. The PC is now connected to the web through the powerline network and the router and the PS3 is connected via wifi.
