    Help buying replacement ADSL Gateway/Router

My Linksys ADSL Modem/Gateway/Firewall/Router box is giving up the ghost. Well on the switch side anyway. It randomly turns on and off frequently meaning I can do no home networking and web browsing is very stop start.

So time for a change, not going to chance firmware upgrade.

Rai and moogle already suggested 2 (am at work and forgotten the specifics).

    What it needs to do:

    1. Be an ADSL modem
    2. Be a firewall/gateway
    3. In-built DHCP/4 port switch
    4. Wireless is optional
    5. Not cost more than £40 delivered
    6. Must support DMZ, port forwarding and port range forwarding.

The old Linksys AG241 worked nicely

Rai/moogle: Be very nice if you could link me up again with your suggestions. It's much easier to buy from work than at home (I tried last night and web pages kept timing out).

    Jay,

    Rai suggested this model DG834G

It's been a long time since I delved into gateway/modem boxes and just need a little reassurance it will do what I need it to do as stated in first post. If you have any suggestion or preference, that would be most appreciated.

This is my original (or as close to I can remember). Linksys

If your old one worked fine, check whether the power supply is knackered using a multimeter. If it's a common one, just look through your box of PSUs and pick one of the right voltage and >= amps.

As a note, there is quite a few revisions of the Netgear. Currently five going by Netgear download page. No idea which chipset is considered the best, as I'm still on a V2.

Yes, for using custom firmware to modify the SNR.

Re: Help buying replacement ADSL Gateway/Router

ebuyer had the DG834N for £55 Wednesday last week, was going to pick one up for some bridging with my current one. sadly i think it was only for the one day as it had gone back to normal price by the time i was ready to order

anyway.. the point is - if they can sell the N for that price, it makes the GT feel VERY expensive, and maybe worth holding out to see if it comes up again
