    Wireless problems (Windows XP)

    Hi guys

    I've just restored a PC with Win XP Pro, it's much quicker now, however I'm having probs with connecting on the wireless network.

    I have WPA TKIP security but the windows component only seems to know about WEP and won't take more than a few characters:



    I installed the driver for the USB Wireless adapter but what happens on startup is the connection connects, then disconnects, connects again, then 5 seconds disconnects, this goes on and on. The only solution I've found is unplugging the adapter then manually connecting with my network and entering the passkey again.

    A minor change is that the usual windows wireless icon has been replaced by this one:



    There are a couple of USB devices not being recognised and the PC won't connect to windows update to upload a hardware profle as it doesn't see the internet connection, yet here I am on firefox which is connecting just fine!

    Do you know whether the restore disk that you used had any service packs slip-streamed into (specifically SP2)? That wireless connection window looks a little unfamiliar..

    It was a DELL restore CD (with SP2 yes) and it seems to have messed something up, I couldn't install google chrome browser or windows live messenger because a file called "winhttp" or something was missing.

    The computer belonged to someone who's since got a laptop so asked me if I wanted it. Although it has a genuine win xp licence he's lost the actual disc, and microsoft say I need to buy a new retail pack just for the CD, hence using the DELL restore disc!!

    is it using the wifi card manufacturer's client? re-start the windows zero configuration service and check the settings.
