    Netgear DG834GT Wireless Problem...

Ive had this router (sky customer) for about a year and a half, good little router but now I am having problems with it.

I dont know why, but for some reason the 2 dell laptops that I have and the PS3 are having trouble connecting to it wirelessly. My PC is connected to the router via ethernet and doesn't have any problems...

Ive checked the router's setup and disabled MAC filtering (for now) and also enabled SSID broadcast just to make sure the laptop and PS3 can pick them up - which they do, but they just dont connect. Ive called Sky already and they told me to change the microfilters connected to my phone socket, but im pretyy sure the problem isn't with the line its with the router (so im not sure how that would help). They're also convinced that it's a problem with MY devices, not the router.

Any advice guys on what to do?

Have you tried resetting the router? Have the white Netgear DG834GT and the WiFi on that occasionally freezes.

Try changing the wifi channel mate, its possible that inteference from other wifi devices in the vicinity are upsetting your connections....

If not it might be time to by a new router...

Yep, didn't fix it. The connection started dropping out quite alot recently (even via ethernet) a simple reset solves this particular problem...it gets quite hot too, I think that maybe part of the problem.

    Re: Netgear DG834GT Wireless Problem...

It doesn't have to be other devices within your own home that interferes, but neighbours' wifi can interfere too. Or, it might be the unit overheating. I had the same problem with an 834G, put a question on here and the guys suggested putting the unit on its feet on its side so that more air can get to it, which seemed to work. It seems the netgears have an overheating problem..

    Re: Netgear DG834GT Wireless Problem...

Have you got any security enabled? I had this same problem with my Thinkpad not connecting to a DG834GT. It could see the network and the sognla was strong but wouldn't connect.

I then changed security settings to WEP using Hexadecimal key rather than an ASCII key and that fixed the problem.

Check that the router is enabled for both 802.11b and g as maybe your laptops can only cope with b

    Re: Netgear DG834GT Wireless Problem...

    @ smudger

The unit is already on it's feet and im pretty sure its not a problem with interference as no one currently lives next door to me anyway.

    @ Kmac

I did have WPA2 enabled when everything was perfectly fine but then to test it I turned it off to make it easier for the wireless devices to connect to it. Still though, the problem persists. Also just tried WEP but still no luck

Thanks for all the help guys, maybe it's time for a new router..recommendations anyone?
