    Line share device?

Further to your application for PIPEX Xtreme ADSL, BT have confirmed that your telephone
line does have a line sharing device. Unfortunately this does mean that your order
has gone into delay with BT.

Additional work on your telephone line will have to be carried out by BT to remove
the line sharing device before your line can be activated for ADSL.

Your order is currently being monitored and as soon as we have an update from BT
we will contact you, by email with your activation date. Our apologies
    for this unforeseen delay.

Any ideas how long it takes to fix?

    potentially, yes.

the DACS will need to be removed, and how long THAT takes depends on whether there are any spare copper pairs about

for example, if the previous owners of the house had 2 lines (and therefore are responsible for the splitter), it's a 20 minute job to convert back to a real phone line, once a BT engineer shows up. however, if the DACS is at the telephone pole, sharing with a neighbor, with no spare copper pairs... then they'd have to dig up the road to add extra lines.

.... Will they dig up the road just to put a proper line in to my place or will they tell me where to go?

good question. under OFTEL rules laid out midway through last year, they HAVE to remove DACS if you tell them to, at no cost. however, OFTEL was folded & replaced with OFCOM at the start of the year, and OFCOM have no mention of DACS anywhere on their site.

So I am potentially hitting my head against a big wall... not good.

thing is - my neighbour doesn't have a house at the moment it is being rennovated [has been gutted totally]

I got a funny idea this ADSL will take a while to install.

... Is there anyway I can track this unit?

find the master socket for the house, this is usually bigger than a slave socket, and looks as if the lower & upper sections of it both come away from the back. it's probably in the living room. go to the outside of the house, there should be a lead strapped to the wall coming from where the master socket lives. follow that round. if it links to a white box about a foot tall in the garage, you're in luck - hell you could hax it yourself if you wanted to. if it goes to the telephone pole & has a big grey box at the top of it, you're in trouble.

Just filled out a fault on their website, and booked an appointment - they will redirect my calls to my mobile until it is fixed for free if I like.

    Hope it all comes through!
