    University Internet Connection Sharing

Okay, well my problem is basically I need a router which can automatically log-in to a HTML based login site and then allow all my networked items access to the internet.

The internet at my student accommodation requires me to login to a basic HTML page using my username and password assigned to me, which means that I can't just put my switch into the wall and be on the internet. I need a router or another way how I can connect all my devices by only using one username and password.

I've searched a little on the internet for this but can't find anything to help me out :/

    Thanks in advance,
    DK

Can't you share your connection from your PC to the others?

I had it working like that for my Xbox 360, but it and my Playstation 3 have now decided that they don't want my PC to assign it an IP Address.

    Edit:
Hm... Just done some more research - apparently if I just use a Router instead of a Switch the university should accept the MAC address of the router instead of my PC allowing all my devices access - can anyone confirm this?

Yeah using a router should work, depending on the setup of your university's network. I knew a few people who did this when I was at Loughborough a few years ago.

A router should work. Of course, most Universities explicitly forbid the use of routers. Strathclyde did, and their SOCKS server was simply abisimal. Why they didn't just give us open access I'll never know, were they afarid we'd eat their bandwidth or something?

We had the same wonky WiFi set up at Aston a few years ago. Again routers were banned. Not too sure how they would practically tell who was sharing though, as they barely had the technical skills to keep the wifi up for more than a day before it fell over.

The worst thing is that for the WiFi they would often get client saturation, in that the AP could not accept any more connections. I reported on 3 different occasions, before giving up, that I couldn't get into WiFi durring lectures in a particular room and each time their "tech" who would check the systems off hours would "have no problems connecting and streaming YouTube video." Another room the Access Point was completely disconnected from the network, which I reported on no less than 7 different occassions. To their credit, they would fix it, for about 2 days.

Yeah my University Digs allows routers so looks like I should be okay

Ordered one today, hopefully will stop me having to mess around with ICS.

    Thanks for your help,
