    Huawei E160 vodafone on windows 7 x86

did standard instal from the stick

restarted then ran software. it detects network 'vodacom tz' and lights on the dongle etc. then when i click connect it just says 'devide not found' or whatever.

MDMA detects it and signal etc. but it won't connect

is there a free alternative to the vodafone manager or a work around to make it work?

download "mobile partner" and use this page to configure settings

    http://forum.gpsgate.com/topic.asp?topic_id=6669

might also be worth unlocking your dongle, if you want to use a standard sim, or to use abroad! saves me a fortune when im on the road

if you cant find mobile partner.. PM me your email and ill send it.

Funny thing with 7 and some of the slightly older versions of these modems.

Go into the UAC (its in user accounts on 7) and pull the slider bar all the way to the bottom and restart

Then uninstall/reinstall the modem and it should work just fine.

cheers guys i'll give the UAC settings a go as that's the easiest, then if not i'll try the others, the full fat software download might take a while here with 5kb/s download speeds (i'm never ever complaining about virgin broadband again)

j1979 i'll PM when i have a chance, my provider isn't listed (vodacom tanzania)

ok i've tried all but no joy, just given up on getting it to work with windows

instead, installed ubuntu 10.04 as dual boot, and guess what, worked perfectly with zero installation within seconds, literally seconds. so using that for internet and windows for everything else (because linux is frustrating)

Out of interest.... when are you plugging the modem in? I've noticed a problem wih these under XP whereby if you plug them in before you've completed the Windows login process you get odd issues, such as the software being unable to see the modem. Wait until after you've logged in, then plug it in and wait for the software to auto-launch, then click connect.

No idea if it'll fix your issue as a workaround until the software stops being so shocking, but it's a minimal effort workround, so has to be worth a try.

    splash,

yeh that kind of thing is annoying, quirky stuff, but i've tried booting with it in, and plugging in once it's on desktop, same issue. i've tried uninstalling, rebooting, installing, rebooting, trying, and every combination to no avail.

    shame really

and have you tried mobile partner? it's Huawei's generic software and it works for me with any sim card.
