Re: Using own router on BT Infinity

Hi I have just got the same router as you but can't seem to get on line with it. I end up on a BT page that warns me I may be trying to access the system without permission. I have tried to use the same SSID as the bt router so I don't have to change the settings on all the gear in the house. I don't think that would be the problem but could be wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Steve

    Hi Brianzion.
I have taken your advice & purchased a TP-LINK N600 TL-WDR3600 to overcome BT blocking my port forward setup.
However, the user instructions suggest I need to keep the BT Home hub modem in place & then feed this router from the hub. Surely this will simply adopt the BT security settings still or do I remove the BT Hub & completely replace it with this router as the ADSL modem too?
    Thanks,

I've used a Fritzbox with mixed results (without the BT dsl modem) - although there is a fault on my line at the moment so not sure if the speed issues I had are due the the fritzbox (openreach view) or the line issues (my view).
    I'm with plusnet fttc.

If you are using your own dslrouter without the BT ECI/Huawai box then remember that you need to set VLAN 101 (or at least you do on plusnet)

Why would you do that!!! You do know that the 2850 and 2860 both have VDSL modems in them, you dont need a seperate modem, you just plug your telephone cable straight into them and wam (i say wam, you do need to set a vlan of 101 i think on the wan side to get it working, but loads of guides for that), and i can tell you from experience even the cheaper 2850 is a great box as i own one, and it syncs as fast as my home hub 5 did.

Re: Using own router on BT Infinity

I purchased the D-link DIR-890R 3200AC router to replace the BT router. After everything is hooked up (BT Infinity) with VDSL modem, I am still unable to see the internet..

    1. Is D-Link DIR890R a cable router?
    2. Has anyone get this router to work with BT Infinity & VDSL modem?

Have you setup a PPPoE connection on the new router? From what I remember you can use any combination of username and password.

Re: Using own router on BT Infinity

I was a TP-Link TD-8980 (ADSL) in conjunction with the white Openreach modem via the WAN port on the TP-Link.

I have just recently cross-flashed the TD-8980 with TD-9980 firmware which gave it VDSL capability (same chipset, but the 8980 is locked to ADSL), eliminating the need for the Openreach modem.

I've got a business line with static IP and set username/password, however, for home users you just use the bthomehub @ btbroadband.com without a password, PPoE, VLAN ID 101
