Virginmedia doublespeed doubly dissappointed - WHEN ?!?

I remember searching on VM's website a while ago and found a pdf file which listed all the areas and when they'd be upgraded. More recently, I've been unable to find it / get an update, so I've had to rely on their bolt/branson page and that had suggested "July onwards" for my area (Reading).

Having been away on holiday for the last couple of weeks and pretty much off the net, I came back to see where they had got to. Putting in my postcode now says "Estimate between December 2012 and May 2013"

I suppose I should have expected it, but it really me off when within a day or two of the suggested happenings they've been planning for months, it gets pushed back at least another six months!

I was holding off changing my contract with them in light of the imminent upgrade, but as it's not so imminent any more, I think I'll kindly complain and see what they can offer considering the let down following the anticipation and marketing hype.

I could just see Coe saying on the six o'clock news tonight "Sorry, we're not quite ready for the Olympics, we're going to do it beginning 2013 instead"

    Anyone else let down?

Re: Virginmedia doublespeed doubly dissappointed - WHEN ?!?

I don't have a BT line, (have a VM telephone) and have always been on ntl since I moved into my house over 10 years ago. So not sure it's worth the hassle.

Just checked, infinity only available from October onwards, so not really worth it, although their offers are inticing

Re: Virginmedia doublespeed doubly dissappointed - WHEN ?!?

Raven, did you get an email from VM indicating the upgrade?
I'm still on the old blue ntl box which won't do more than 20Mb (service I'm currently on).
Just checked by logging into the CM, and I'm still on 20Mb down, 2Mb up.

Re: Virginmedia doublespeed doubly dissappointed - WHEN ?!?

phone customer services (150) and ask them to look at your package (thats enough!) might be that there will be a free upgrade or something similar before the whole area is upgraded.

Re: Virginmedia doublespeed doubly dissappointed - WHEN ?!?

Mike, unfortunately, it looks like a far too familiar problem.
There's a lengthy thread on it on VM's forums: http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...e/td-p/1330835

I can live with the delay, but what annoys me most is no communication of the change of timescale and the fact it's happening so close to the original timescale and now out by a factor or 10.

Re: Virginmedia doublespeed doubly dissappointed - WHEN ?!?

Logged on to my Virgin media account last night as I needed to confirm that they've switched the direct debit to my new account and saw a green box about broadband. This appeared to be offering me my upgrade from 20mb to 60mb (no indication this will cost money), filled out the form and got the upgrade today.

This is before the proposed date of Dec12 to Feb13 for my area via the postcode check, so might apply to others too, have a check.

Thanks Mike, looks like it's the same for me and I've just put in the info.
Although it is a bit confusing as they say that you can self install "in most cases", but still have to book a time slot for an engineer to come round to install it for you?
    Anyway, will see what happens...

Re: Virginmedia doublespeed doubly dissappointed - WHEN ?!?

mine was pushed back too. funny thing was i was passing down a street i haven't been down a while and noticed just off it was a virgin store, so went into ask about the 100mb service, and it turns out the manager was someone i knew and hadn't seen in years. he told me the area was due an upgrade in october. this was a few months ago before being pushed back

anyways, i kept on checking the site and noticed this week the online thing was going to let me pick 100mb, that it didn't a few weeks ago. but they wanted £50 install, so i phoned up, the first guy waffled about an engineer setting stuff even though i had a superhub, i said i'd upgrade now if i didn't pay £50 so he put me to another guy (both indian call centres), never passed on my details so i had to start from scratch, that guy couldn't find my account, even though the first did, but anyways, he said i could double to 60mb for free or have 100mb for £4.75 more. so for 15p a day more i have 3x faster speed, more allowance before STM, and 100mb is bloody fast!

so it looks like some areas have speed increases but they haven't automatically upgraded people unless they've asked, as i've seen other people mention similar free/quicker upgrades on sites

i asked if 100mb was getting upgraded to 120mb, as i thought that was the case, but he said customers originally on 100mb would get that upgrade to 120mb, but new customers wouldn't, but maybe in the future there would be an offer on. as all 100mb customers would be paying the same price i thought they would all move to 120mb to avoid a split tier thing. i also noticed there is a 100mb service and a 100mb XXL service, one has 10mb upload and the XXL only has 5mb upload, which is what i'm on. i presume the XL, XXL etc packages are the new ones and the 100mb without letters is the legacy product. would have been nice to get 10mb upload, but 3mb to 5mb isn't bad. not that i upload much
