Looking for more ports on router

    Hey folks,

I'm looking for a little advice on a router with more then 4 gigabit ports. I'd rather not get a switch as there's already a mess of boxes near the comp in the living room.

Does anyone have any suggestions or can anyone recommend a router with more then 4 gigabit ports? I've seen a gigabit one but it was marked up at £140 which is a little rich for me.

    Thanks

I know you said you weren't after a switch - but these are tiny...

Modem included or just the router, and wireless too?

    Non-wireless:

And there are older ADSL2+ modem-included, SOHO routers about.

Cheers for the link fjo. It doesn't look to be gigabit tho.

I may just end up getting a switch as suggested. I would if preferred to of had one box though. I'll do a bit more research today.

I've already got a cable modem btw.

a dedicated switch will probably have better throughput aswell, especially those netgear prosafe ones, i have a couple of them and they are great!

Re: Looking for more ports on router

My router has 4 ports and I want to add two more devices so ideally I'd be looking at a 6 port router, but I'm fairly certain most networking devices comes in multiples of 4, so an 8 port router would be what I am after I've done a bit more digging today and it seems the best option would be to just get a switch, yes it means an extra box on the stack but it's a heck of a lot cheaper!
