1mbit connection here, loving it, would love 2mbit if it had a faster upload speek than 30K/s, but even then, i would need a job or something.

Our school has a terrifyingly fast connection too. Thing is on the older computers, with 365MHz Celerons, ridiculously slow hard drives/memory, etc. Everything takes an hour to do. The downloads never seem to go above about 300Kb a sec.
Whereas on the new 2GHz Celeron WinXP machines, they can download at about 3MB/sec without breaking into a sweat.
I downloaded the demo of UT in under a minute, only to find out that running EXEs are blocked on those computers

We had a nice multiplayer LAN game of Doom95 on the old computers though

You can try NASA's Astronaut Photography of Earth FTP site... It contains some excellent photos of Earch from space and it is a very simple FTP site: over 6,400 photos in root directory, totalling over 24GB - and each is a gem! For more details, here's the web site...

I use 512k by at my uni house at the mo, upgrading to 1mb soon, but 2mb is more than I can afford at the moment. I don't think £50 is a bad price for it really though.
