Question Looking for Homeplugs that do NOT require pairing

    I bought 2 packs of these: TP-Link TL-PA211KIT AV200 Nano 200Mbps Powerline Adapter - Twin Pack

However they require pairing where you press a button on 1 then the button on another to pair them so they communicate with each other.

Problem is that 1 of them lost pairing, I actually thought I had a problem with my broadband but it was the homeplug that lost pairing!

I used to have some unbranded homeplugs that didn't require pairing, you just plugged them in and they worked however I'm not sure where I can buy them. I'm looking for at least 200Mbps Homeplugs that don't require pairing. Can anyone give me some links to them if they exist?

Re: Looking for Homeplugs that do NOT require pairing

    I just bought a pack of two D-Link AV200 from MyMemory http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Networking...ug-Starter-Kit

They come configured for Homeplug and will connect without pairing, but can be paired using a button on the bottom (or reset back to HOMEPLUG). The only trouble with not pairing them is of course that one in three of your neighbours can also connect to your network.

Re: Looking for Homeplugs that do NOT require pairing

I don't think any of them *require* pairing, but AIUI if you don't then there is no security at all in the connection and you could be bleeding data into nearby houses/flats etc.

So pairing is good. If one of the units lost pairing and keeps doing that, then get them replaced.

I'd rather get some that don't have a pairing button just to be safe. Is there any like that?

Not true about neighbours. I read this online: The electricity meter acts as block on the signals that are transmitted across the network, so there is no chance of them leaking out on to the public wiring and your neighbours picking them up.

Re: Looking for Homeplugs that do NOT require pairing

Read it on the Internet, so it must be true

I think in a house you *should* be fine, in a flat I wouldn't be so confident.

My point was that I think they all have the button, probably part of the homeplug standard even. But you shouldn't have to use it. Read up on if you can reset your plugs to factory default, they should work as you want.

TP-Link PA-6010KIT - I used a pair of these recently. They work out the box and the button is hidden on the underside of the unit. If it were pressed on either and not pressed on the 2nd within 2 minutes then it would have no impact.

These ones also have no other obvious buttons which is handy if kids are around to mess. Some of the ZyXel ones that do the same thing have power as well as pair buttons.

There are cheaper options if you don't need the Gigabit ports or the speed.

Is there any way to unpair homeplugs once they been paired?

Re: Looking for Homeplugs that do NOT require pairing

For the TP-Link ones you can use the utility to factory reset any or all units. The ZyXel ones that I've used in the past had physical reset buttons on the units themselves.

To reset D-Link to HomePlugAV just press the pairing button for more than 10 seconds

    blatantly untrue im afraid

I have had several dealings with customers connected to neighbours equipment using unsecured powerline adapters. Electricity meters are not configured to block data signals, and there is no reason they should be. Even if they were, powerline adapters have only been around a few years, meters have been around a lot longer and you would need a relatively new model if it was to be configured in such a manner.

I've got a pair of TP-Link homeplugs. At first they wouldn't stay paired when connected devices switched off. But by connecting an ethernet cable to a powered switch, that maintained the connection, no more problem!

the "pairing" is only for encryption purposes, you don't have to use it

True but is better to apply encryption

Power save mode; nothing to do with pairing. My older ones and my new ones do this if there is no device connecting / connected at the time.

Re: Looking for Homeplugs that do NOT require pairing

I have a pair of these

    http://www.viking-direct.co.uk/catalog/catalogSku.do?id=2020532&cm_mmc=googleplusbox-_-feed-_-modems-and-routers-_-2020532&_$ja=cgid:2084018417|tsid:34770|cid:65200817|lid:19795549817|nw:g|crid:17599829297|rnd:32906 26827893304567|dvc:c|adp:1o2&gclid=CO2Gl533770CFYrjwgodnrIAkg

which work great...though they need pairing but I don't view this as an issue. I had a similar pair of himeplugs which did die but they lasted for 2 years and offered a much more stable connection compared to wireless

Re: Looking for Homeplugs that do NOT require pairing

I bought those exact same home plugs and they were useless they would not connect and when connected would be very very slow - they were replaced with some netgear ones that have performed flawlessly ever since.
