    SMTP 554 5.7.1 error using lycos.com

    I have since yesterday been unable to send mail out from lycos owing to the above error. Searching suggests it is usually a blacklist issue, although I can send & receive from this ip using other email providers. Also it is a user not permitted to relay error, rather than rejected/cannot be accepted/spam rejection or similar.

    Other people have reported this problem within recent weeks on isitdownrightnow etc, but at times when I have been accessing mine without trouble. Is it most likely a will-resolve-itself thing? I would ideally like to send out an email from this address this evening if possible, so any suggestions (suitable for the technically dim please) very welcome. Thanks.

    I think the blacklist entry is actually on the SMTP server/domain and not the IP you are using to connect to that mail server. Can you email to any other addresses?

    I'd contact Lycos (I didn't know they were still going..!) and see if they can sort it out.

    No, I can't email out to another address from there either - I was trying to email a talktalk address but gmail & bt are no go as well.

    As I say others have been affected so it seems not a new problem but it is new to me.

    Lycos.co.uk isn't around any more but I'm with .com, which is; the reason I opened a .com account in the first place rather than the more apparently obvious choice of .co.uk is lost in the mists of time now.. have never really had any trouble with them except when they randomly re-jig their interface (like recently) always to worse effect.
