Pure copper Cat5e ethernet cables None(copper Clad Aluminium)

I'm trying to find a decent make of ethernet cable Cat5e that avoids the bad quality (copper Clad Aluminium) ethernet cables that are everywhere online.

Should I go with the current best selling of Amazon World of data:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Best-Sellers...ters/430464031

World of Data 10m White Network Cable - High Quality / CAT5e (enhanced)

Many people seem to recommend the eBay/Amazon seller (rhinocables) for some reason perhaps because they're cheap?
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1407720167...594&rmvSB=true

Might have included Scan but having signed up with AVforums for free del I have to spend £50 minimum to get free delivery making them one of the most expensive places to buy ethernet cables.

There does not seem to be a reliable methodology to finding proper Pure copper Cat5e ethernet cables as sellers are not below charging a premium for the nasty stuff also are 24awg cables better?

When my flakey internet connection slows me down I need to be able to rule out my ethernet cables.

    Thank you all for reading.

Re: Pure copper Cat5e ethernet cables None(copper Clad Aluminium)

Copper clad aluminium is not always a bad thing, depending on the thickness of the copper and the frequency being transmitted. This is because of the skin effect which means most of the energy is transmitted in the outer portion of the conducted.

If you buy branded cable, Belden for example, you will be getting a quality cable. This fine if you want say 100metres and are prepared to add the terminations yourself. But while buying expensive doesn't guarantee good quality, buying cheap usually ensures poor quality.

I'd stick to specialist sites like cable monkey / comms express rather than using ebay/amazon if you want quality.

Re: Pure copper Cat5e ethernet cables None(copper Clad Aluminium)

Generally speaking, you can usually get away with CCA as long as you aren't overly rough with the cable and aren't doing PoE.

The more annoying thing is that CCA isn't CATx cable, but is almost always advertised as such, making it much harder to spot.

Whilst ebay sellers are almost always selling CCA, and declaring it as "Ethernet CCA CAT5 cable" or something, you do have to check carefully. I'm still surprised ebay allow it, since they won't allow you to list non-Jubliee Clip clips as anything containing the word Jubilee, just as they wouldn't allow you to list a non-Hoover vacuum cleaner as a hoover.

The likes of Amazon/ebay etc are really quite bad for this sort of thing and it happens with other cables like USB/power/SATA/etc too. I also wish there was a reliable way of knowing the quality of a cable before purchasing it and without having to pay over the odds.

Re: Pure copper Cat5e ethernet cables None(copper Clad Aluminium)

My genuine thanks to all for swift and informative feedback, but I'm still left scratching my head as I'm not alone in this problem.
(peterb)Copper clad aluminium is not always a bad thing, depending on the thickness of the copper and the frequency being transmitted. This is because of the skin effect which means most of the energy is transmitted in the outer portion of the conducted.
Looking at many eBay/Amazon reviews would seem to echo your words in some respects as the World of Data White Network Cable at that price is most certainly CCA yet reviews are overwhelmingly positive (4.6 out of 5 stars) all the some I'd rather avoid the stuff all together and am happy to pay double the going price, sadly Duronic only make CAt6a at the length I recure 30m up a winding staircase Cat6 is simply not viable option.

The only solution is a vote at current we have:

    1.(Belden) peterb
    1.(cable monkey) Jonatron

I lack the ninja like forum skills to make a polling system if any who care to do so in a better made thread they are more than welcome to do so, bare in mind I've never added the terminations on myself but if it's the only way to get the real stuff I would learn.

    Hi,

    NetStoreDirect

Bought a lot from them, they are CCS branded cables (UK company)

    Cat5e patch cables
    Cat6 patch cables

    Cat5e reel
    Cat6 reel

I highly recommend using CCS gear, we've installed hundreds of modules/patch leads, not had a single failure.

    They also make modules/patch panels.

Cannot go wrong, prices are great too!

Also, for your wall port to modem (assuming it's ADSL/VDSL), use one of these. ADSL nation 0.5M RJ11 cable

Of course not, I didn't mean to imply that and some of the expensive 'gold-plated OFC' stuff is worse than the cheap stuff!

Re: Pure copper Cat5e ethernet cables None(copper Clad Aluminium)

In the end I just whent with the most expensive out of cable monkey, comms express, which was netstoredirect I just hate the inflated delivery charges of £2.50+ on orders under £60 but an ethernet cable is an ethernet cable

Does anyone know how to mark a thread (resolved) it's not under thread tools for some reason?

cablemonkey and netstoredirect are the same company. I have no idea why they have 2x shop fronts. The prices can vary massively, especially on normal patch leads.

    I just stick to netstoredirect.

Re: Pure copper Cat5e ethernet cables None(copper Clad Aluminium)

Obviously I'm bumping an old thread here, but I'd hope that the topic is still a relevant one for many in 2017 - it is for me anyway.

As with the OP, 30m is the length that I would be needing (I don't want to make my own). Is netstoredirect still the best source (and price) for quality Cat5e? They are currently charging £17.29 delivered, so it prompted me to ask here first.

    Thanks.

Amazon has some, though you will find they list as CAT 7 I think.

    What's the target price?

There wasn't a target price, I just thought it seemed more expensive (especially the delivery cost) than I assumed it probably should be.

I ended up ordering the cable from netstoredirect anyway though just to be on the safe side.
