Unhappy Dell Website Not Working From Main PC, Fine From Second?

    As title really.

I have no idea wtf is up here, theres no malicious software on this pc, yet if I try IE or FF, the dell website refuses to load.

FireFox gives the usual "The document contains no data" and blank screens, IE just gives me "The page cannot be displayed / Cannot Find Server" error.

Yet if i go on the dell website using IE (havent tried FF, its not on there) from another pc which uses this one as a gateway, it works fine.

    Any idea whats up?

Yep, tried all that, tho I would asume that if it was firewall related, it would stop the other PC from accessing the website also.

Im really at a bit of a loss as to why the dell website doesnt work from this pc

Out of interest can you get to the US site? www.dell.com?

Just wondering if the issue is site specific...

All my stuff is Belkin (Router etc) and it is a real pain for firmware updates...

Nope, nothing at all works from my main pc, not even www.dell.com

Rather annoying, cus it means I keep having to VNC into my other PC just to look at the dell bargains in the bargain hunt forum

    http://cstore.msu.edu/cstore/cstore2....html#problems

look at the bottom. This is refering to cookies. Considering you are having the same issues in FF I doubt this will do it but I dont have any other suggestions at the mo...

    are you with NTL?

if so its your proxy server. NTL proxy servers randomly block websites. Some days i cant get on to the OCUK site, some days its dell, some days its random other sites

yet another reasons to switch from NTL You can fix it by googling for NTL proxy servers and setting one manually in firefox/<spit>IE</Spit>

Nope, with Claranet via ISDN spud1.

And with regards to cookies, I dont think its that either, Ive already tried clearing cookies in both IE and FF on my main PC and still cannot access the site at all.

Not sure if clearing your cookies would do it if it has been blocked.
Tried adding the dell site to your allowed list under Privacy tab in Options?

    No go either street.

The way its behaving, its more like the browsers think the site isnt even there, not that its blocking it.

Its certainly an odd one. The only real difference between the 2 PCs is that my main rig is running XP SP1 and the other is on XP SP2, Although I cant see what difference that would make.

You running protowall or something similar? I know protowall blocks the dell site.

Nope, Ive actually taken off the firewall I was running (Sygate) to see if it was blocking it (even tho traffic logs says it wasnt) and still no go.

Its strange, from this pc (main one) its like the site just doesnt exist, yet its perfectly fine from the other pc?!

You said the pc has no spyware etc.. do you say this cause you have just cleared it down with SbyBot or something? If so wonder if it removed something which left a registery change.

I had a similar prob with hotmail a while a go, I'm sure it was a microsoft security patch that fixed it in the end... upgrading to SP2 might help resolve it.

Alternatively it looks like rebuild time if its really annoying you

    Best of luck

Well, I know its clear cus every time I run Spyboy / Ad-Aware it always comes up clean

As an update, it also appears that royalmail.com is doing exactly the same thing. Works fine from the other pcs, but not from this one.

I dont much fancy a reformat, Spose I could try upgrading to SP2, just takes so bloody long on ISDN
