So what happens after MAC code?

I'm thinking of moving to another ISP, if I do will I have to suffer any downtime? I'm wondering if it's possible to oversubscribe my old ISP for 1 month so I won't have to go without internet or is downtime inevitable?

There should. in theory, be no downtime as all they have to do is transfer the adsl over to the new company with the mac code.

Its similar to the phone system.

You can have *upto* 24 hours of downtime, may be more, maybe less.

Dependant on who ur transferring from/to

Thanks guys. Thinking of transferring to that 24meg trial from Be internet. It says my exchange will be activated for adsl2 this month but I find it hard to trust things like that.

MACs last for 30 days so don't ask for one too early. You get given a 24 hour window i.e. the day of migration. You continue to use your existing ISP up to the day of migration so no need to oversubscribe.
