    Change to wireless setup

Hi guys, need some fresh thoughts on my home network setup as i need to change it, but I'm so confusing myself in the process i can't think my way clear!
I have had for the past few years my BY cable modem connected up to a series of routers via the standard RJ45 cable. Started with a wired Linksys router, then added a wireless AP (Linksys again) and then swapped the two for an all in one Netgear. no problems with any of this.
now, due to a change around in the rooms my cable modem is now in the bedroom, away from the PCs in our 'office' which means i ether route a cable around the house.. not pretty.. or setup a wireless link between the cable modem and the wireless router.
No problem I thought, but after some more thought and playing with the kit I'm begining to think it's not as easy as I first thought. My latest thinking was to buy a wireless bridge connection, connect that to the cable modem and link it to the wireless network. however if I do this, the internet link is not actually on the WAn port of the router, therefore i'm thinking it would not have to pass through all the security of the router?? Am I right in this? And if so if there a good way i'm just not thinking off to get this working?

As additional info I have 3 PCs on a wired network, and i'm happy for the internet link to be on 802.11b given that should be plenty fast enough for my broadband connection even after the BY upgrade to 10mbit.

    Count,

I don't suppose you would consider making all your devices wireless and placing the wireless device with the router?

Not really, would grossly slow down access to the files on the 'server' which for some of the video files would be a real pain. Would like to keep the 100mb links for the desktop machines. Just want a wireless link over to the internet connection. Any good way to wirelessly link the hardwired router to a wireless router on the internet connection?

    Count,

Now this is a big MAY.

You may be able to make one of the hub based machines use ICS on the wireless interface (if machine has wired and wireless - should be possible....) then wireless link to the router.

    So

Machine A talks to Machine B (as it's gateway) then Machine B gets its internet info from your wireless router and then off to the real internet.

Almost making your connection between Machine B and the router how your ISP does it.

    Have I made any sense?

The only thing I don't think you'll be able to do is talk from Wireless devices back through ICS! (So from Wireless to ICS/Machine B to Machine A).

I see what you are saying. Might be a way out it I can't rig up anything more hardware based. Just stick a wireless PCI in the 'server' and have the two client machines route through it.. would certainly be worth a shot, pity I don't have one already to try it out..
