Linksys router probs
Recently brought a linksys router and am trying to set up a wired network as my current wireless one is very hit and miss. However when installing it i get the message that the router is unable to connect to the internet even though it is connected and the internet green light is on on the front. When i plug the same cable back into my old actiontec router it has no problems connecting. Any thoughts anyone ? cheers for any help

Assuming the Linksys is not a dud, first thing to check is that you have the connection & configuration information entered correctly:
eg: Protocol: PPP/VC (sometimes called: PPPoA or PPP over ATM) VPI=0 VCI=38 Encapsulation method: VCMUX Modulation method: G.DMT Primary DNS Server: IP Address Secondary DNS Server: IP Address Also is the Linksys providing DHCP? Is your client configured to get it's IP from a DHCP Server? Does your client have your Router IP address (internal) as it's Default Gateway in it's TCPIP Config? Static IP Address: Yours or Dynamic IP selected...
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

I had real trouble manually config. a friend's Linksys until I used the automatic set-up cd, that worked a treat.

Not having used a Lynksys I don't know what 'step 8' is... but I generally prefer to configure most things manually - at least you know what parameters are going in......

What ISP are you using as that just mucked up a friends netgear I was installing, ended up having to ring them up to find they need to have special settings.

Have you made sure you switched your modem off for 5-10 mins then plugged everything in & turned modem & router on?
Maybe that's just cable but am not sure whether you're on cable or ADSL. |

I had the same problems with the Linksys WAG354G
I had the same problem when it came to using the setup CD to install the router. It got to step 8 and then refused to connect to the internet. I sorted it eventually by ignoring the setup wizard after step 7, it turned out that I was connected to the internet. I suggest you fill in the steps up to then, then exit the wizard, it should have saved them up to that point and see if you can get on the internet.
Hope this Helps
