    Gawds - looking at this now nigh-on two year old thread, I realise that my PC has similar specs to those mentioned in the original few posts...

    aidanjt's system
    3mbps ntl cable internet

    2 10/100Base-TX switches
    All Cat5e cabling.

    My rig (Raptor) running WinXP (thinking of Dual-booting with Gentoo later) connected to switch 1.

    Server (Genbox) running Gentoo:
    Athlon XP 2500+, 512mb ram, 120gb system disk, 2x160gb disks striped for user data (already dangerously full), 2 100mbps NICs. eth0 connected to switch 1, eth1 connected to the ntl modem, provides NAT routing/firewall, and various other services for my geeky pleasure.

    switch 1 runs to switch 2 in my dads computer room.

    Dads main rig (pentium-d) running WinXP connected to switch 2:
    Pentium D 840, 1Gb Ram, 160Gb SATA, GeForce 6700

    Dads old machine (medion) running WinXP and Ubuntu connected to switch 2:
    Pentium 4 2.6Ghz/533Mhz FSB, 512Mb ram, 120Gb HD & 2x160Gb in RAID 0.
    I decided to install Ubuntu on this machine so he could get used to how Linux works

    I'm hoping to get my hands on a nice compact x86 based box with a 2.5" HD so I can use it for routing instead of my server, so it needs 2 NICs, does anyone know where I could get something like this for a reasonable price?.. a 500Mhz P3 and 128Mb of ram would be overkill specs, I've been looking at VIA's C3 embeded boards but its hard finding something in a compact format with 2 NICs.

    Main Rig -> J&W RS780UVD-AM2+ | AMD X4 9750 | 4x2GB GieL PC2-6400 | 2x500GB (md-raid0) | Sapphire HD4870 | Gentoo (AMD64)
    Server Box -> Asus P5B-E Plus | C2D E6320 | 2x1GB OCZ PC2-8500 | 4x500GB (md-raid5) | BFG 8800GTS 320Mb | Gentoo (Hardened/AMD64)
    Test Box -> P4E 3.2Ghz Rev. E0 | Asus P4C800-E Deluxe | 2x1GB PC3200 | 1x500Gb | NVidia TNT 2 | Gentoo (X86)

    Crappy Visio Diag Warning>

    Have just incorperated the server and it is now doing the DHCP, DNS, Active Directory and I'm messing with Streaming Media Server for a work project.
    2 of the Laptops are on wireless the rest are wired due to distance.
    Just need to get the server a bit quieter as its in my room!!
