| Post Your Network! (56K = Possibly) I don't think there's been a thread like this on Hexus before has there? Seeing as we've shown off our case mods, workstations, cars, etc, why don't we show off our networks? | ![]() Clients 1 & 3 are the main rigs used by my wife and myself respectively. Recently re-jigged the network configuration to simplify it (no more multi-homing of clients). Client 2 is my wife's secondary PC for various art programs and to use her tablet. Clients 4 & 5 are guest machines, wirelessly connected to the WPA-PSK network. [Edit 2009-10-11] Image is pulled straight from my web server, so is up to date as long as I maintain it, but the text above will go out of date occasionally ![]() The machines for myself and my wife were updated again this year, to Core i7 CPU-based jobbies -identical spec as per usual and now Client1 and Client2 in the pic. Client3 is the guest machine, the old server. Server is now my old PC, running Hyper-V (where the old one was running Virtual Server) and has 2 physical NIC connections: 1 for the host only and 1 for the child partitions to share. One VM is now a DC and pretty much all but the Hyper-V host itself are in the domain for ease of secure but shared resource sharing. (DC DNS forwards to the router for non-local name resolution.) SAQ (Sometimes Asked Questions): 1. Why have a 100Mbps switch between the router and the cable modem? There are 5 public IPs available and the router takes just 1, so I have the option to hook a laptop to the dirty side of the router for external route testing or name resolution if anything crops up (or if there should be a whacky program that simply won't or can't work through NAT/UPnP). 2. Why have a GigE switch connected to the other router when there are enough ports to connect the machines directly? If I reset the router I don't want the server to start re-enumerating its interfaces, as there appears to be a quirk with the onboard Marvell NIC that it doesn't detect a reconnection without a reboot, which was leaving all my virtual machines in an unreachable state during maintenance.
