That is 1 hefty price cut. Looks like the consumers are the winners in this battle
I worry about the stock in the channel and also the product perception
It's not helpful for price wars to happen and Intel must be really hurting AMD right now...
... Lets hope Barcelona has some umpft to warm up the battle
I wonder what the production costs of these chips are ? Are AMD still making a profit off of each one they sell ?
Main - Intel Core i5 2300 @ 3.5GHz, 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz RAM, Asus P8P67 Pro, Coolermaster iGreen 600w, GTX 480, Antec One Case
If they aren't making money, if the next chip isn't "all singing, all dancing" they could be in some serious do-do.....

They are already in really serious do-do, they are loosing hundreds of millions of dollars per quarter, a CPU range which is obsolete and by the time they completely switch from 90nm to 65nm Intel will be on 45nm production. On the graphics side they don't even have a product to sell that can compete against Nvidias 8800 series.
I hope they can survive or else the choice will be Intel or Intel and Nvidia or Nvidia. Both companies will be able to charge whatever prices they like.
X2 6000+ based media rig anyone?
Concievably, you could put together a killer machine for 500-600, plus whatever screen you want...
oh, how does the x2 6000 compare with the e4300 it is equal in price to?
Why can't they release some more 939 chips?
Actually it's not so daft - there's a lot of people with older systems that could benefit from an upgraded CPU.. but if AMD force people to buy a new motherboard everyone's just going 'well if I've got to get a new system I might as well get core 2 duo'..
Hmm, could be my next upgrade £156 is a lot more justifyable than £300 fro an X2

It does look fairly interesting, but it doesnt help me, and i'm on 939 *Sigh*

If anyone here reads techreport they may have noticed that a recent poll of their readers put socket 939 in the main system of nearly 50% of the readers (if my memory is working).
So I do agree with the posts above. However AMD does struggle for manufacturing capacity compared to Intel, and I don't think they can make CPUs for multiple platforms very easily.
I'm considering updating my media server system to an Athlon X2 after these prices cuts... (from an Athlon XP)
£144.43 for X2 6000+ at Lambatek...though i think ill be staying with intel for now

Echoing the thoughts on 939 here - i couldn't see the point in AM2 either and C2D cost too much for little gain in high res gaming (for me anyway) - they could sell loads of dual core 939s still. The pain of replacing cpu AND memory AND motherboard just to go dual core is plain annoying!
