Been around the world and I, I, I,... actually hang on...

We travel a hell of a lot for HEXUS to bring you the news from the various tech shows around the globe, which means we all travel an awful lot.

No, strictly speaking, I should only really cover CeBIT and GC Leipzig, and maybe the TGS as those are the only shows that have any gaming stuff going on... Ok, so there's a little at CES but not much compared with everything else.

But seeing as I write for the main HEXUS site and HEXUS.lifestyle too, and do daft stunts for HEXUS.tv, I get to go to all the shows except the really technical stuff like IDF.

So I thought I'd do a quick totting up of just how much travelling I did last year... So here we go, my total air miles show by show for 2007:

    CES 2007
    Heathrow to McCarran = 5235
    McCarran to Heathrow = 5235

    CeBIT
    Luton to Hannover = 433
    Hannover to Luton = 433

    IDF China
    Heathrow to Beijing = 5071
    Beijing to Heathrow = 5071

    Ubidays
    London to Paris = 213
    Paris to London = 213

    Computex
    Heathrow to Bangkok = 8542
    Bangkok to Taipei = 1546
    Taipei to Bangkok = 1546
    Bangkok to Heathrow = 8542

    GC Liepzig
    Birmingham to Leipzig = 600
    Leipzig to Birmingham = 600

    Dragon Tour
    Heathrow to Bangkok = 8542
    Bangkok to Taipei = 1546
    Taipei to Bangkok = 1546
    Bangkok to Heathrow = 8542

Then there's the stuff we do up and down the country, such as Channel Expo, numerous visits to developers, manufacturers and so on, so let's add on a conservative 2000miles of train and road travel for a years worth of trecking to see these guys and that gives us a grand total of:

    65, 456 miles!

Now, given that the Earth, even at it's slightly bulging equator is only 24,901miles around, that means I've travelled enough to do two full trips around the world and still have enough air miles in reserve for another trips getting me 2/3 of the way around.

Now, if I only I could find a damn frequent fliers club that went both East AND West!

I offset my carbon footprint by working in a paperless office, growing my own vegetables and composting the bodies of those that annoy me... oh, and I plant a tree for Africa every time a kitten dies.

I now have a new sig.

You can lesson your carbon footprint by driving everywhere, your only footprints will to and from your car

Alternately lessen your carbon footprint by increasing ours and let us do some of this travelling for you.

    Problem sol-ved.

Erm... don't bodies release greenhouse gases when decomposing?

As such I fear that composting the people who have annoyed you may increase your carbon footprint

Not if you burn em first and compost the ashes... it's the teeth that give me the biggest problem... I've found the easiest thing is to take them on the flights and flush 'em halfway over the Atlantic.

So does anyone know of a frequent fliers club that goes both ways?

And I mean East and West, not both ways as in the swinging thing...

Just feed them to the pigs Nick and save the planet

Burning them releases a lot of Carbon Dioxide as we as other harmful pollutants into the atmosphere. There is even a call for cremation to be stopped by some scientists.

1 of them, Dr Short, a reproductive biologist at the University of Melbourne said the cremation of the average male in Australia, during which the body is heated to 850 degrees Celsius (1,562 degrees Fahrenheit) for 90 minutes, produced more than 50 kilograms (110 pounds) of carbon dioxide.

I've been travelling alot lately too for various reasons.

The most idiotic thing I have seen in the last month was last week, as I sat in my business seat to come back from Shanghai i was asked by name if I would like a newspaper...

Looking at the paper she was about to offer me it was the daily mail, no biggie there although its about as entertaining as a bog roll, but what REALLY got me was I was sitting in a 777, about to leave shanghai and the lady was offering me a newspaper for my 13 hour flight with a 3/4 page photo of a CRASHED 777 on the end of the Heathrow runway, the exact destination of my flight.

Blethering idiots - should be slapped with two wet fish for such stupidity.

I'm gonna have to unsubscribe from this thread, as every time I look at my updated subscribed threads I get Lisa Stansfield stuck in my head.

    Can't stand Lisa Stansfield!
